Many wishes are granted\, but after Act I\, the play takes an unexpected turn and the community must come together to save each other and their kingdom. “Into the Woods” is one of Sondheim’s most popular musicals and features the enchanting songs “Children Will Listen\,” “Last Midnight\,” and “No One is Alone.” There is beautiful music\, storytelling and dancing\, but nobody quite lives happily ever after. \nAcclaimed director Glenn Patterson (Fiddler on the Roof\, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast\,The Music Man\, Les Misérables) expertly guides the large cast through this sensational journey. \nThe November 15 opening night includes a gala event at which Theatre Bristol reveals their 2020 Season. Gala tickets and more information available at www.TheatreBristol.org. \nTheatre Bristol is pleased to present Into the Woods as part of its family-friendly 54th season of ARTspace and Paramount shows which include Cinder Red Riding Hood and the Seven Dwarfs\, The Wizard of Oz\, Sherlock Holmes\, The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf\, and Miracle on 34th Street. \nWinner of multiple Tony Awards when debuted and revived\, and adapted for film by Walt Disney Pictures\, Into the Woods features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim\, book and original Broadway direction by James Lapine\, and with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick. Into the Woods is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

SUMMARY:Becky Buller Band & The Fairfield Four\, gospel concert
DESCRIPTION:For this special concert\, Grammy and IBMA winner Becky Buller and her band will join voices with the legendary Fairfield Four for an evening of gospel and bluegrass. Buller is a graduate of ETSU\, where she was involved in the Bluegrass\, Old Time & County Music program. She has since written songs for artists and groups including The Travelin’ McCourys\, The Infamous Stringdusters\, Ricky Skaggs\, Rhonda Vincent and Doyle Lawson. The Fairfield Four\, also Grammy winners and stars of the silver screen in O Brother\, Where Art Thou\, will meld their traditional African-American a cappella gospel style they have been known for since 1921 with Buller’s chart-topping sound. \n“The Fairfield Four\, continuing to perform a cappella\, have been singularly important in revitalizing and preserving the oldest style of traditional African-American spiritual and gospel singing.” – Jerry Zolten \n“A unique combination of two great American art forms.” – Mike Huckabee \n“I actually fell in love with The Fairfield Four through their collaborations with the Nashville Bluegrass Band in the 1990s. Then I got some FF records and I started writing some songs. I thought maybe they’d cut one of my songs someday. Then a year ago they agreed to cut one of my songs for my new record and I am so grateful they did.” – Becky Buller

SUMMARY:Bristol Historical Association Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Bristol Virginia – The Bristol Historical Association will welcome author Eric Buckland on Monday\, November 18 to speak on an early Bristol resident and Confederate raider\, John Singleton Mosby.  Buckland’s program is entitled\, The Perfect Man in the Perfect Place\, the story of Colonel John Singleton Mosby.  The meeting will be held at the Bristol Public Library at 6:30pm and is free to the public. \n\nMosby moved to Bristol\, Virginia\, then known as Goodson\, and opened the town’s first law office but soon enlisted in the Confederate army at the outbreak of the Civil War. Where his law practice might have been lacking he found his success raiding Union encampments and with lightning-quick attacks and eluding capture\, disappearing and blending in with local farmers and townsmen. By the end of the war\, about eight hundred men had been mustered into the 43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry\, named Mosby’s Rangers. Nearly two thousand men rode with him over the period of January 1\, 1863 to April 21\, 1865. \n\nThe November program will focus on Mosby’s military skill. Eric Buckland has written five books on Mosby\, with several telling the stories of some of the men who rode with Mosby’s Rangers during the “War Between the States”. His two newest books are “They Rode With Mosby” which provides the reader with in-depth biographical information and stories about twenty-four of Mosby’s most well-known men\, and\, “From Rockbridge To Loudoun” which tells the stories of the Fifty-seven men who attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and rode with Mosby’s Rangers. \n\nBuckland has received two of the prestigious United Daughters of the Confederacy’s Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medals for his writing and research. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.A. in English and a commission as a 2LT in the United States Army. After a 22-year military career\, Buckland retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1999. Eric served the majority of his time in Special Forces. Some of his awards include the Special Forces and Ranger Tabs\, Master Parachutist Badge\, Combat Diver Badge and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Eric is currently the President of The Stuart-Mosby Historical Society. \n\nThe November 18th meeting is open to the public and held in conjunction with the library’s mission of “Expanding Minds and Building Community”.  Contact Tim Buchanan\, program chairman\, for details of this or other upcoming programs\, buchanan03@bvu.net. SUMMARY:Float\, documentary film
DESCRIPTION:It’s a game of microns\, milligrams and unlikely heroes as Brett Sanborn and Yuan Kang Lee\, two American F1D plane competitors\, prepare for and compete at the World Championships. These handmade planes weigh as little as a $1 bill and can fly unaided for over 40 minutes powered by a wound rubber band. Director Phillip Kibbe’s Float highlights the precise process and art of building these aircraft\, the science of how they fly and the glory that patience and a little bit of Zen can bring. \nAt first glance\, FLOAT may seem like a niche documentary for model plane enthusiasts. But everyone can learn from the graceful simplicity\, loyal camaraderie\, and undying devotion these competitors exhibit. – CIFF44 \nFree reception and Q & A with the filmmaker following film.

DESCRIPTION:Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol \nA Ghostly Christmas Story by Tom Mula “Marley was dead to begin with. That must be clearly understood or nothing wonderful can come of this story.” Finally we get to hear the tale of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol told from Marley’s perspective\, which is wonderful indeed. Desperate and locked in a torment of his own creation\, Marley gets one chance for redemption. He must redeem his former partner\, Ebenezer Scrooge. This begins a journey of laughter and terror\, redemption and renewal\, during which Scrooge’s heart is certainly opened\, but not before Marley – in his irreverent\, funny and deeply moving story – discovers his own.
