SUMMARY:Shenandoah Concert
DESCRIPTION:When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre\, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship\, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses\,” “Church on Cumberland Road\,” “Next to You\, Next to Me\,” and  achingly beautiful classics such as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy®  winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss.\nShenandoah has left a potent legacy at country radio with such enduring hits as “Ghost in This House\,” “Rock My Baby\,” “Janie Baker’s Love Slave\,” “If Bubba Can Dance (I Can Too)\,” and “Her Leavin’s Been a Long Time Comin.” Shenandoah recorded 9 studio albums and placed 26 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Original members Marty Raybon and Mike McGuire aren’t content to rest on their laurels and are currently working on new Shenandoah music to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career.

When he gets fired from the only job he’s ever had\, he decides to set up a lemonade stand on the street in front of his upscale suburban house. All the while\, his wife is probably cheating on him\, his brother is a pariah\, and the college girl next door wants to be his lemonade-stand intern. In this dramatic comedy\, Garret sets out to prove “the American Dream\,” “an American Dream\,” or at least his American Dream still exists.

SUMMARY:Tim Hawkins Show
DESCRIPTION:Since giving up his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002\, Tim Hawkins has been establishing himself as one of the most in-demand comedians in the country. With 300\,000\,000 video views online and over 100 sold-out concerts every year\, his Jackwagon Crew has grown into a revolution of multi-generational proportions.\nTim’s gut-busting comedy show entertains the entire family while doubling down on the funny\, a daunting task in an age where the obscene has become routine. His act is 1 part gifted + 2 parts twisted\, the only certainty being his on-the-nose observations that expose the ridiculousness of daily life while marveling in its hilarity. The perils of marriage\, homeschooling\, and growing up in the Midwest may not exemplify the rock star life\, but they make for really good punchlines.\nSure he’s funny\, but fans are often even more amazed at his singing voice and guitar chops. Tim’s hilarious music videos have brought him viral YouTube fame with fan favorites including “The Chick-fil-A Song\,” “Yoga Pants\,” “Aging Rockers\,” “Things You Don’t Say to Your Wife\,” “Cletus Take the Reel\,” “A Homeschool Family\,” and “The Government Can.” Still\, Tim is no rock star: “It’s not like I have a choice. Comedy is my only life skill.”

SUMMARY:Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers (unplugged) with Special Guest Nathan Stanley — A Benefit for the Appalachian College of Pharmacy
DESCRIPTION:Over 50 years ago\, Larry\, Steve\, and Rudy Gatlin started singing in their little hometown of Abilene\, Texas\, and from there went on to make music history. Over their four-decade career\, that has taken them from dusty Texas stages to White House performances\, from Broadway to Grammy Awards to the top of the country charts\, there has been one unifying element\, music. There’s no harmony quite as pure as family harmony. “Gatlin harmonies spin with high and light precision and their music bleeds and screams of love and a lot of living.” Said Country Capsule.\nBy 1976\, the Gatlin Brothers were in the fast lane\, thanks to the chart-topping success of the Grammy Award-winning “Broken Lady.” The hits continued throughout the rest of the decade\, including their signature song\, “All the Gold in California\,” soon to be followed by “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You).” The number one hits continued throughout the next decade with “I Don’t Wanna Cry\,” “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love\,” “Statues Without Hearts\,” “Love is Just a Game\,” and “Night Time Magic.” In addition to being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1976\, the trio was nominated for awards by the Country Music Association\, the Academy of Country Music and the Music City News Awards\, among others.\nCome to the Paramount on Friday\, May 25 to hear the legendary Gatlin Brothers sing their top hits from the 1970s\, 1980s and today\, in a display of pure talent that has lit up major marquees and packed concert halls across America for more than 50 years.\nOpening for the Gatlin Brothers is Nathan Stanley. Dubbed the Prince of Bluegrass\, he has been performing since the age of two when he played the spoons with his grandfather’s band The Clinch Mountain Boys at the Grand Ole Opry. He later graduated to playing the mandolin\, and in 2007 became lead singer and rhythm guitar player. He has nine solo albums to his credit. In his performance\, he pays homage to his home\, history and family.\nThis event is for the benefit of the health and educational programs of the Appalachian College of Pharmacy. Located in Southwest Virginia\, The Appalachian College of Pharmacy offers a three-year doctor of pharmacy program\, and is committed to serving the needs of rural and underserved communities in Appalachia as well as throughout the world.

SUMMARY:McKinney Center: Artist Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Collison and Barrett-Justis Exhibit Work at the McKinney Center \n  \nJonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center is pleased to invite you to an event on Friday\, June 8\, 6-8pm featuring the woodworking of husband and wife team\, Bill and Tina Collison\, and the oil paintings of Suzanne Barrett Justis.  The exhibition will run through July 2.  The McKinney Center is open Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm.  Most all the artwork will be on sale to the public during the duration of the exhibition. \nSuzanne Barrett-Justis started her earlier years growing up in upstate New York\, with a professional artist mother and a life surrounded by the things she loved most: animals and nature.  It was the perfect “cocktail” for a creative soul to embark in a career as a wildlife artist.  Suzanne started painting professionally while she was still in high school but never thought that being an artist was going to be the career path she would take. She states\, “Being an artist isn’t something you DO\, but instead it is who you ARE.” \nSuzanne graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Animal Science and pursued a career in cancer research at Vanderbilt University.  While at Vanderbilt\, Suzanne still painted professionally in her home studio on the weekends but maintained her full-time position in the lab during the week.  After the birth of her children and a move to Kingsport\, Tennessee\, Suzanne dedicated her time to raising her daughter and son\, doing nursery murals\, and painting pet portraits. As the children grew and Suzanne had more free time\, her time was spent on advancing her studio art career. \nSuzanne opened her art studio and gallery in downtown Kingsport in 2006 and has been successfully engaging with the public\, her client base and students through her downtown site.  When she isn’t working with students\, Suzanne can be seen painting at her easel\, working on portraits\, a commission piece\, figurative works\, wildlife or whatever happens to move her.  It is in her “oasis” that she feels most at home and at peace. \nSuzanne travels all over the country and DC meeting with zoos and taking lots of great reference photos for her next wildlife piece. Suzanne understands and appreciates the zoo’s conservation efforts and does much to help advance their efforts by donating pieces that are sold in auctions and fundraising events. The San Antonio Zoo\, The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle\, WA\, The National Zoo in Washington DC\, Zoo Miami\, The Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke VA\, and many more zoos have benefited from the generous donations of Suzanne’s work. Many of Suzanne’s pieces hang in zoo’s permanent collections throughout the country including the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago\, Illinois; The BioPark Zoo in Albuquerque\, New Mexico; The Nashville Zoo at Grassmere in Tennessee  and the Dallas Zoo in Texas. \n Suzanne is member of many arts organizations including The Oil Painters of America\, Artists for Conservation\, The Kingsport Art Guild and The Portrait Society of America.  She has shown in many juried and one man shows.  Suzanne has volunteered her time and talents to many community projects including the Kingsport Carousel Project: not because being an artist is what she does\, but more so\, because being an artist is WHO she is.  Suzanne lives with her family in Kingsport\, Tennessee and is living her dream. \n\nThe Collison’s are a husband and wife team that work with wood.  Bill’s early days in his father’s workshop and Tina’s interest in decoy carving fueled their interest in wood as the medium for their endeavors. They both view wood as strong\, solid\, substantial\, and lasting…all great qualities as a medium for artwork. Wood is warm and tactile; it yearns to be held\, rubbed and touched. \nTrees downed by storms\, age\, disease\, or in the path of progress\, provide us with an ample supply of raw material. Bill turns burls\, natural edged bowls and platters; Tina creates the surface embellishments by carving\, piercing\, burning and coloring designs on the turned pieces\, moving the work from high quality craft into Art. \nA piece of wood on the lathe serves as a blank canvas would for a painter. The various chisels and embellishment tools are the pigments and brushes. Unlike the painter or potter who may rework a flaw in their work\, working with wood on the lathe is a one-way process. Disappointments or errors in form or technique are usually final; that piece finds its way to the “designer firewood pile.” \nTheir work has been influenced by exposure to many mentors through their membership in numerous artistic associations over the past 14 years. They were granted membership in the Southern Highlands Craft Guild in 2009. Their work has been juried and received awards in numerous juried exhibitions. \n\nThe McKinney Center houses the Jonesborough Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts and boasts of a mission to be\, “committed to inspiring the people of our area through both the appreciation of and the participation in the arts as a form of personal and collective expression.”  The objective of the program is to “bring the community at large closer together and show as an example to other communities the creative influence that the arts can bring to their quality of life.”  The McKinney Center is a department within the Town of Jonesborough. \n\n\nFor more information\, email Theresa Hammons at theresah@jonesborougtn.org or call 423-753-0562.
