SUMMARY:Paramount Bristol: Neko Case
DESCRIPTION:Neko Case\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFri\, February 3\, 2023\n\n\nDoors: 6:30 pm / Show: 7:30 pm\n\n\n$59.54 – $100.00 (prices include all applicable fees and taxes ) / Members save at least $5 per ticket\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nNeko Case steps out\, cutting the sky and singing the stars\, spinning fury and mercy as she goes. She loves the world and wears her heart on her sleeve\, but she might eat it before you get to thinking it belongs to you. Wild Creatures pulls together some high points of feral joy from twenty-one years of solo work by Neko Case. The Virginian marked Neko’s debut as a solo artist in 1997. She delved into darkness in 2000 with Furnace Room Lullaby\, scrawled Blacklisted in 2004 and recorded The Tigers Have Spoken live the same year. In 2006\, she dreamed Fox Confessor Brings the Flood\, and in 2009 unleashed Middle Cyclone. She plumbed her own life in 2013 for The Worse Things Get\, the Harder I Fight\, the Harder I Fight\, the More I Love You\, and raised hell in 2018 with Hell-On. \nNow in her third decade of recording under her own name\, she’s just getting started. She’s doing it on her own terms\, but the legacy she’s building is one that can stand up to music made by any other solo artist in her lifetime. Don’t look away; you never know what might happen. “I’m just trying\,” she says\, “to be myself as hard as I can.” \n  \n  \nDoors open at 6:30 pm. Our Box Office opens 2 hours before showtime. For shows not already sold out\, tickets will be available at the door on the day of show for an additional cost of $5 (+tax and service fee). BUYER BEWARE! Third party tickets (StubHub\, eTix\, VividSeats\, etc.) will NOT be honored. Tickets are available via paramountbristol.org or our Box Office ONLY.  All sales are final. Refunds and exchanges are not permitted.  Outside food and drinks are not allowed. \n\n\n\n\n\nCheck out Neko Case on Spotify! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Add to calendar

SUMMARY:Johnson City:Tennessee Songwriters Week Qualifying Round
DESCRIPTION:Discover the musical story of Tennessee from the ones who are writing it. Helmed by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development\, Tennessee Songwriters Week\, now in its fifth year\, is underway with more than 50 qualifying rounds at music venues\, restaurants\, museums\, coffee shops\, and more in seven musically distinct regions across the state. For the first time\, in partnership between Visit Johnson City and Boones Creek Museum and Opry\, the Tennessee Songwriters Week Johnson City Qualifying Round will take place February 9th at 6pm at the Boones Creek Opry. \nLocal judges within the songwriting community will consider lyric originality\, performance\, and connection with the audience. Three songwriters will be chosen to advance from the Johnson City Qualifying Round and perform at the Regional Showcase Round at The Down Home in Johnson City on February 22nd. These qualifying round winners will be joined by other selected songwriters from their respective rounds in Northeast Tennessee. \nOne songwriter will be chosen at The Down Home\, along with six others from the regional showcases across the state. They will win the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the legendary Bluebird Cafe during a private event in March with music industry professionals. Finalists will also win a branded commemorative Taylor guitar\, a two-night hotel stay in Nashville\, $100 gift card for travel\, and a one-year membership to Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). \n“The Boones Creek Opry is honored to be a qualifying round host in partnership with Visit Johnson City. It has given us the opportunity to promote Boones Creek\, Tennessee’s first community\, Northeast Tennessee’s musical heritage and culture\, songwriters\, and Johnson City tourism”\, said Vicki Shell of the Boones Creek Historical Trust. \nSeating for the Johnson City Qualifying Round is on a first come\, first serve basis and has limited capacity. There are no advance ticket sales\, and the public is encouraged to donate $2 or more at the door. \nTennessee Songwriters Week was established in 2019 to support music venues\, celebrate songwriters with live performances in all genres of music\, drive visitation and inspire travelers to experience the state’s music stories\, history\, attractions and venues. Since its inception\, more than 3\,500 songwriters have shared their original music across Tennessee stages during the annual celebration. \nThe Boones Creek Opry was founded by the Boones Creek Historical Trust as a way to preserve\, exhibit\, and celebrate the traditional culture of East Tennessee and its oldest community. \nVisit Johnson City strives to showcase the uniqueness of the community by promoting its distinctive resources\, events\, and attractions to both visitors and citizens. SUMMARY:Zentangle Class
DESCRIPTION:[Even though this is a FREE event\, you still need to register so we have supplies.]\nLife is an art form\, we are the artists. Bring out your inner artist. Zentangle is an American method for drawing\, which not only promotes concentration and creativity but at the same time increases personal well-being. Zentangle was invented by a monk\, Rick Roberts\, and artist\, Maria Thomas. With Zentangle\, they created a combination of meditation and art. People practicing Zentangle have found that it has increased self-confidence\, relieved stress and anxiety\, improved eye-hand coordination\, nurtured and developed creativity\, and more. A Zentangle is an abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. Sometimes mistakenly called “Zendoodling” or Tangle Doodling\, Zentangling or tangling is actually a formalized process that defines itself as something other than mere doodling because of its theory and approach.

SUMMARY:Shooting Star Invitational Youth Gymnastics Competition
DESCRIPTION:JOHNSON CITY\, TN – Visit Johnson City is proud to lend their support to the inaugural Shooting Star Invitational youth gymnastics competition. In association with USA and AAU Gymnastics\, this event was conceived by Johnson City’s very own local gym\, Appalachian Stars Gymnastics. Appalachian Stars Gymnastics hopes to create an accessible youth gymnastics qualifier for ages 4 to 18 of all skill levels. This meet will take place Saturday\, February 25 from 9am to 7pm at the ETSU Mini Dome\, formally known as the Ballad Health Athletic Center. An estimated 150 athletes hailing from all over the Tri-Cities region will be present at this event. \nBeing the first of its kind\, this invitational has the opportunity to become a regular annual event marked on young gymnasts’ calendars. Dulci Miller\, owner of Appalachian Stars Gymnastics\, hopes to offer up an experience that is both competitive and convenient for gyms that otherwise would travel great lengths for similar meets. Miller is passionate about gymnastics and investing in the lives of children\, and she believes this event accomplishes just that. The Shooting Star Invitational will spotlight some of the most talented gymnasts in the region and catapult them to Tennessee’s statewide competition. In hopes of cementing this as a marquee event now\, Shooting Star will have an opportunity to attract increased visitor participation in ensuing years. \n“I am honored to be able to share a little of our world with the community. Kids are our future and encouraging them to be brave\, strong\, and courageous is what I love. I hope to provide a memorable experience at the Ballad Health Athletic Center that these kids will remember for a lifetime and look forward to coming to every year\,” said Dulci Miller of Appalachian Stars Gymnastics. \nUSA Gymnastics strives to provide a positive learning experience for those interested in the sport of gymnastics. \nAAU Gymnastics is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. Since 1888\, they have raised tomorrow’s leaders on today’s playgrounds. \nAppalachian Stars Gymnastics believes that by recruiting and training compassionate coaches dedicated to the sport\, providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere\, allowing for family/supporter engagement\, and communicating openly and honestly will aid in making gymnastics fun for everybody involved. \nVisit Johnson City strives to showcase the uniqueness of the community by promoting its distinctive resources\, events\, and attractions to both visitors and citizens.
