SUMMARY:Whitewater Kayak: Fundamentals of Creeking
DESCRIPTION:Whitewater Kayak: Fundamentals of Creeking – $175\nIf you’re interested in expanding into the world or creek boating but would like to learn and apply creeking techniques on a regular river first\, our Fundamentals of Creeking class is the answer. This class\, led by Adam Herzog\, is by design held on a class 3/4 river but we approach it like we’re running a creek\, focusing on fine boat control\, tight lines\, catching micro eddies\, using river features and\, of course\, launching the occasional boof!

SUMMARY:Niswonger Performing Arts Center: The Bee Gees
DESCRIPTION:Stayin’ Alive: One Night of the Bee Gees\n\n\n\n\nThe Bee Gees have been captivating audiences for more than five decades with their unique vocal sound\, while remaining current through all the eras of contemporary music. Stayin’ Alive\, with the vocal match of Tony Mattina\, Todd Sharman and George Manz\, creates the experience of seeing the Gibb brothers in concert. The trio is backed by studio musicians who wholly capture the sound mystique of The Bee Gees. \nSinging blockbusters such as “Night Fever\,” “Jive Talkin’\,” “How Deep Is Your Love\,” “You Should Be Dancin’\,” “Nights On Broadway\,” and “Stayin’ Alive\,” they also perform softer poetic ballads such as “I Started A Joke\,” “Massachusetts\,” “Fanny Be Tender\,” “Words\,” and “To Love Somebody\,” among other great hits. \nBack by popular demand\, Stayin’ Alive is the quintessential tribute band to the Bee Gees\, capturing the excitement of live performance and the tender subtleties of the human voice!

SUMMARY:Historic Jonesborough hosts two-night concert featuring storyteller Donald Davis
DESCRIPTION:Donald Davis\, one of America’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center on March 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. The two-night concert will feature Davis telling different stories each evening. \n  \nEnjoy two nights of stories from Donald Davis with general admission each evening being $15. A special group rate for 15 or more people is available for $12 per person. \n  \nDavis was born in a Southern Appalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, I just absorbed them\,” Davis says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781. \n  \nDavis’ resume boasts numerous experiences including Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, a retired Methodist minister and former chairperson of the board of Directors for the National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the National Storytelling Festival and has also served as a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institute\, the World’s Fair as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the world. \n  \nFor Donald Davis\, storytelling is a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\, pull deep inside for one’s own stories and personally share the common experiences that celebrate the creative spirit. For Donald Davis\, storytelling “is not what I do for a living\, but it is how I do all that I do while I am living.” \n  \nAttendees can enjoy live music starting at 7 p.m. \n  \nDonald Davis will host a meet and greet after the storytelling performances. \n  \nFor tickets or more information\, call 423.753.1010 or visit Jonesborough.com/tickets.

SUMMARY:Kingsport: Viewing Options for the Total Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Viewing Options for the Total Solar Eclipse \nIf you happen to be in the right part of the world on April 8\, you’ll be able to see a total solar eclipse. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is perfectly aligned with and blocks the Sun. \nThose living on the thin path that stretches across the United States will see the Sun fully blocked and surrounded by the thin\, wispy tendrils of the solar corona. Unfortunately\, the Tri-Cities is not close to this path\, which means we’ll only see part of the Sun blocked by the Moon. \nAt mid-eclipse\, you’ll see 87% of the surface of the Sun blocked by the Moon. If you want to see the eclipse safely\, you have a couple of options. \n\nUse your own solar glasses to dim the light of the Sun to safe viewing levels. You can purchase your own pair of solar glasses from the Bays Mountain Park gift shop for $2 each.\nYou can project the image of the sun using a colander from your kitchen. It will project dozens of little Sun images from the holes.\n\nEclipse Times for the Tri-Cities \n\nFirst Contact (when the edge of the Moon just touches the edge of the Sun) – 1:53 p.m.\nMid Eclipse (when the most amount of the Sun will be blocked by the Moon) – 3:10 p.m.\nLast Contact (when the edge of the Moon just leaves the edge of the Sun) – 4:26 p.m.\n\n\nThe Kingsport Public Library will have solar telescopes set up in Glen Bruce Park from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 8 to view a magnified view of the Sun. The library is hosting an afterschool kids program on eclipse science on April 5 at 4 p.m. and the library will be giving out solar glasses during library programs leading up to April 8. \nPlease Note: NEVER look directly at the Sun without proper protection. \n“Eclipses are special events and the perfect fun for the entire family\,” said Planetarium Director Adam Thanz. “Whether you can visit a place to view\, use your own solar glasses or project with a colander\, be safe and understand you are in direct alignment with the Sun\, Moon and Earth.” \nFor information about other events\, activities and programs offered by Bays Mountain park\, visit www.baysmountain.com. \nAbout Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium \nAnnually\, more than 200\,000 visitors pass through Bays Mountain Park making it one of the State of Tennessee’s Top 50 Most Visited Attractions\, according to the State of Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. One of the nation’s largest city-owned parks with 3\,750 acres\, Bays Mountain Park features roughly 44 miles of hiking trails\, a state-of-the-art planetarium\, wildlife habitats\, fun exhibits\, a 44-acre lake\, ropes course with zip line\, trails for mountain biking and much\, much more. SUMMARY:Niswonger Performing Arts Center: The American ELO
DESCRIPTION:Evil Woman – The American ELO\n\n\n\n\nThe Electric Light Orchestra Experience Featuring Evil Woman is widely recognized as the world’s premier tribute to ELO due to their brilliant arrangements\, flawless musicianship and superlative vocals. A multi-media concert celebration of the music of ELO\, you’ll hear instantly recognizable chart-topping hit songs like “Mr. Blue Sky\,” “Roll Over Beethoven\,” “Evil Woman\,” “Telephone Line\,” “Xanadu\,” “Livin’ Thing\,” “Don’t Bring Me Down\,” and many others.

SUMMARY:Lecture: Six Miles to from Charleston\, Five Minutes to Hell
DESCRIPTION:The Tri Cities Civil War Round Table is hosting a lecture entitled Six Miles to from Charleston\, Five Minutes to Hell. The Lecturer will be James A. Morgan\, Author. The event will be held at 7:00 p.m. on April 8th\, Room 219 at the Eastman Employee Center Kingsport\, TN \n Six Miles to Charleston\, Five Minutes to Hell. \nIn Six Miles from Charleston\, Five Minutes to The Battle of Secessionville\, June 16\, 1862 \, historian and author Jim Morgan examines the James Island campaign and its aftermath. By including several original sources not previously explored\, he takes a fresh look at this small\, but potentially game-changing fight\, and shows that it was of much more than merely local interest at the time. \nFor the Federals\, the campaign on James Island was a joint Army-Navy operation that suffered from inter-service rivalries and no small amount of mutual contempt. Brig. Gen. David Hunter\, the overall Union commander\, lost interest in the campaign and turned effective control over to his subordinate\, Brig. Gen. Henry Benham\, whose ego and abrasive personality was a significant problem for the officers who served directly under him. On the Confederate side were men like John C. Pemberton\, a West Point classmate of Benham’s\, who never gained the respect of his subordinates either. The civilian authorities diligently worked behind his back to have him relieved and replaced. He did\, however\, oversee the construction of a formidable line of defensive works that proved strong enough in the end to save Charleston for much of the war. \nThe presentation is free and open to all\, and the general public is cordially invited to attend. Individuals wishing to dine with Mr. Morgan at 5:00pm this evening at The Chop House (1704 N. Eastman Rd.\, Kingsport) should request reservations by contacting Wayne Strong at trustwrks@aol.com. \n  \nTRI-CITIES CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE \nis a non-partisan\, non-profit\, educational forum for promotion of knowledge\, commemoration\, and preservation of our American Civil War heritage. Meetings are always open to the general public and visitors are always welcome. \nAdmission to the event is free\, and the general public is cordially invited.
