SUMMARY:History Happy Hour: I’ve Endured: Women in Old-Time Music
DESCRIPTION:The Birthplace of Country Music Museum is no stranger to History Happy Hour\, and this time they will be sharing about their brand new exhibit “I’ve Endured: Women in Old-Time Music.” This exhibit was years in the making.  Dr. Rodgers explains\, “Old-time music is described and experienced in different ways and for different purposes\, but at its heart\, old-time is mountain folk music with strong ties to Appalachia and the diverse peoples who have called it home. Women have always been central to old-time music — in the home and on the stage\, and as instrumentalists and singers\, preservationists\, activists\, promoters\, and cultural memory keepers. Join the Birthplace of Country Music Museum staff as they introduce their new special exhibit and explore the stories of the women who have been integral to old-time music.” The program will begin at 6:30 pm in the Chester Inn Museum’s Board Room. The program is free and open to the public! \n\nThe 2023 season of History Happy Hour will run from April through November with a new program every third Thursday of the month. The full lineup includes Presidential history\, Jonesborough’s historic front porches\, deed research\, and much more. The full schedule is available on the Chester Inn’s Facebook page and the Heritage Alliance’s website. If you can’t attend History Happy Hour in person\, each program will be livestreamed to the Chester Inn Museum’s Facebook page. \n\nThis project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation\, Tennessee Historical Commission. For more information on the Chester Inn Museum\, History Happy Hour\, or the Heritage Alliance please call our office at 423.753.9580 or the Chester Inn Museum at 423.753.4580.  You can also contact the organization via email at info@heritageall.org.  Additional information about the Heritage Alliance and its mission can be found online at https://www.heritageall.org/. SUMMARY:Jonesborough: Arbor Day
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Jonesborough and the Tree and Townscape Board will celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting and distribution event on Friday\, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the future Jonesborough School site\, located at 720 North Cherokee Street. \nAn apple tree will be planted in the future orchard area on the school property to commemorate the event. Attendees are asked to park along Thompson Meadow Lane\, along the south side of the school site. \n“Arbor Day gives us a chance to acknowledge the importance of trees and what role they play in enhancing the community\,” said Mike Musick\, Parks and Recreation Director for the Town of Jonesborough. “The Town is focused on preserving the trees in our community as well as planting new ones to be enjoyed by future generations.” \nStudents who will attend the new Jonesborough school next school year when it opens will also be attending the event\, assisting in planting a tree at their new school site. \nTwo hundred tree seedlings will be distributed at the event\, free of charge. Seedlings include Red Maple\, Pin Oak\, River Birch and Dogwood trees. \nThe Town of Jonesborough will also be celebrating 19 years of Tree City USA status. A Tree City USA community achieves Tree City USA designation by meeting four standards sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department\, having a community tree ordinance\, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. \n### \nAbout the Town of Jonesborough: A unique 18th century town nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of Northeast Tennessee\, Jonesborough’s natural beauty\, charming architecture\, and storytelling heritage have attracted visitors worldwide.
