SUMMARY:Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star
DESCRIPTION:The Jackson Theatre will present Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star on Friday\, April 17 at 7:00pm\, in partnership with the International Storytelling Center. This special evening of words and music celebrates one of the most influential recording artists of the 1920s and 1930s.\n\nVernon Dalhart was the first artist to record a million-selling country hit with the two-sided 78 RPM disc featuring “The Wreck of the Old ’97” and “The Prisoner’s Song.” Both recordings are enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame\, and Dalhart was later inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A prolific artist by any standard\, he made more than 4\,000 recordings between 1916 and 1939.\n\nDespite his massive impact\, Dalhart’s legacy has often been overlooked. Many legendary performers\, including Dolly Parton\, Marty Robbins\, Johnny Cash\, Willie Nelson\, Doc Watson\, Bill Monroe\, and Mac Wiseman\, have covered songs first recorded by Dalhart\, helping to carry his influence through generations of American music.\n\nDrawing on five years of research\, music historian Dr. Ted Olson will share the story of Dalhart’s diverse career and explore why his contributions have faded from the spotlight. Jack Hinshelwood\, a multi-instrumentalist and singer\, will provide the live soundtrack\, performing faithful renditions of classics such as “Wreck of the Old ’97\,” “The Prisoner’s Song\,” “Home on the Range\,” “Jesse James\,” “The Big Rock Candy Mountains\,” “My Blue Ridge Mountain Home\,” and more songs that helped shape early country music.\nThis event is part of the Jackson Theatre’s ongoing collaboration with the International Storytelling Center\, highlighting shared programming rooted in storytelling and music.\n\nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. Tickets and more information are available at thejacksontheatre.com.\n\n#####

SUMMARY:Rocky Mount State Historic Site: Traditional Christmas Tours
DESCRIPTION:The Rocky Mount State Historic Site in Piney Flats\, Tennessee is celebrating Christmas with its traditional Christmas tours. Come tour the home that hosted Tennessee’s first frontiersmen and women and learn about the Christmas traditions of 1791. \n  \nThe Cobb home at Rocky Mount has witnessed hundreds of years of Christmas celebrations dating from the colonial era to today. Every year to celebrate Christmas\, the historic homestead is decorated with traditional 1700’s holiday décor and tours are offered to the public. During the tour you’ll travel back to Christmas Eve of 1791 when the Cobb family home is celebrating with decorations made of fresh greenery\, lit by candles\, and full of cheer. You will meet and rejoice with the Cobb family\, the governor\, and many of their friends and neighbors as you tour the historic homestead. \n  \nOur candlelight Christmas tours are always popular by all who visit at this time of year. Experience the warm hospitality of the Cobb family and their honored guests\, Governor Blount and his wife as the evening sets in and the old rooms are filled with the flickering glow of candlelight. Our evening tours will conclude with an outdoor reception including a bonfire\, warm cocoa\, and baked goods. \n  \nThis year we are expanding our tour offerings and including a new daytime tour called\, “A Colonial Christmas”. This tour will feature a tour guide who will take you through the historic homestead during the day explaining the history of Christmas traditions that took place in East Tennessee. \n  \nOur Christmas tours will begin the first week of December with limited ticket availability this year. To attend\, tickets must be purchased in advance on our website or over the phone. Our Candlelight Christmas tours will be held December 4th\, 5th\, 11th and 12th. The daytime tours will be available during the weekdays of December. Admission is $15 for adults\, $12 for children and seniors. Rocky Mount offers discounted rates for groups of ten or more and for Rocky Mount Historical Association members. \n  \nIn light of the global Coronavirus pandemic\, Rocky Mount has enacted the following safety protocols. Due to limited group sizes\, we are requiring tickets be purchased in advance online or by phone. Social distancing will be practiced\, and face coverings will be required for entry\, in accordance with the Sullivan County mask mandate. \n  \nRocky Mount is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. SUMMARY:Spread Love\, Not COVID Virtual Holiday Concert with Folk Soul Revival
DESCRIPTION:Discover Bristol and Birthplace of Country Music are teaming up for a virtual holiday concert experience with one of the region’s most beloved acts. Spread Love\, Not COVID Virtual Holiday Concert with Folk Soul Revival is a free online event\, streaming live from the Performance Theater at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. The livestream will be hosted on Discover Bristol’s Facebook page. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA modern band rooted in old-school southern sounds\, Folk Soul Revival whips up its own version of amplified Americana. Formed in southwestern Virginia in 2008\, Folk Soul Revival has spent a decade growing a wide audience both at home (where they’ve become a regular presence at local institutions like the Carter Family Fold\, FloydFest\, and Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion) and on the road (where they’ve shared shows with Dr. Ralph Stanley\, Old Crow Medicine Show\, Jason Isbell\, Eric Church\, and others). They’re road warriors\, logging roughly 100 performances a year. For Folk Soul Revival\, though\, those tours always lead back to Bristol: the group’s birthplace\, home\, and muse.

We hope that many families and businesses will participate so our community can enjoy the Christmas lights and décor from the safety of their own vehicles.” \nThe separate business category\, which debuted last year\, is sponsored by the Unicoi Business Alliance and is intended to encourage retailers to create a festive holiday environment for residents and guests that may be visiting throughout the season. \n“We want our area to be inviting to tourists and the community alike\,” said Erwin Communications Director Jamie Rice. “And what better way than to fill the valley with the beautiful glow of Christmas lights.” \n The contest registration deadline is December 11 with judging held December 12-15 from dark to 11 p.m. The panel will include representatives from the Town of Unicoi\, Town of Erwin\, Erwin Fiber/Utilities\, Unicoi Business Alliance and local volunteers. \n“We’re extremely thankful for the generosity of Erwin Fiber and the Unicoi Business Alliance\,” Town of Unicoi Mayor Kathy Bullen said. “It will be heartwarming to see our towns work together to create a magical atmosphere for our citizens this Christmas.” \nThe Erwin Fiber Holiday Lighting Contest is open to all Town of Unicoi and Erwin residents. SUMMARY:Unicoi: ‘Christmas at the Caboose
DESCRIPTION:Unicoi\, Tenn. —  The Town of Unicoi is mixing up a different type of Christmas magic this year with its new “Christmas at the Caboose\,” which will be held Saturday\, December 12\, from 6-9 p.m. at the Tourist Information Center (106 Unicoi Village Place). \nThis COVID-friendly event will take the place of the town’s typical annual events including the Unicoi Christmas Parade\, Christmas at the Cabin and the “Taste of Unicoi” Christmas Open House\, all of which were canceled in light of the pandemic. \n“We’ve held the community’s safety as the top priority through all of this\,” said Town of Unicoi Mayor Kathy Bullen. “Each event was analyzed for potential COVID risks and we think this will be a safer option for everyone.” \n“Christmas at the Caboose” will include a free drive-thru light display\, created by professional designer Gabriel’s Christmas in Jonesborough\, around the Mountain Harvest Kitchen and a Christmas Village where guests can enjoy Christmas cakes\, treats and hot chocolate while favorite Christmas characters frolic to the sounds of the season. \nSanta and Mrs. Clause will be flying into the valley for a special visit and children will be allowed to place their “Letters to Santa” in his mailbox before catching their very own stocking! Santa will use a slide to deliver presents down to the children from atop the historic Clinchfield CRR 1111 caboose to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure. \n“We think this is going to be a fun way to herald the Christmas season\,” said Communications and Programs Director Ashley Shelton. “One outdoor event will be much safer than the typical events we host while still giving residents a chance to celebrate with their neighbors.” \n“That sense of community is important to our residents\,” Mayor Bullen added. “So it’s crucial to find ways to adapt to this pandemic and reorganize our events accordingly.” \n“We’ve done that by setting up stations throughout the village\,” said Shelton. “After guests experience the drive-thru light display\, they can park and rotate through the village stations before heading back home to warm up.” \nThe Buffalo Pavilion will transform into the “Snowflake Snack Shack” and will serve delicious Christmas cakes\, hot chocolate\, and other tasty treats such as s’mores packs that families can use at nearby fire pits. \n“We’re going to have three fire pits scattered throughout the village so guests have room to spread out while roasting marshmallows and keeping warm\,” said Shelton. “Everything will be socially distanced\, grill sticks will be disposable and of course our food handlers will be taking even more precautions.” \nAfter sweet treats and gifts from Santa Clause\, families are encouraged to swing by “Santa’s Landing Zone” to take a photo with Santa’s antique sleigh and his favorite reindeer\, Mary. Local photographer Valerie Haney\, with Views by Valerie\, will be on site to capture guests’ Christmas moments and help preserve them for years to come! \nGuests may park in the MHK and Visitor Center parking lots while visiting the Christmas Village but masks and social distancing will be required when out of vehicles. No physical interaction with Santa or other characters will be allowed. \nSpecial thanks to event partners Gabriel’s Christmas\, Mountain Commerce Bank\, Ledford Funeral Home\, Bank of Tennessee\, Los Jalapenos\, Jones and Church Farms\, Tsubaki Nakashima\, Unicoi Wine and Spirits\, Clinchfield Credit Union\, Farm Bureau\, H&H Auto\, IW Trailers\, Whistle Stop Deli and Catering\, Crackerbee’s Antiques\, Views by Valerie\, Unicoi Police Department and the Unicoi Volunteer Fire Department for their generosity and support of this special community event. \nFor more information\, visit UnicoiTN.net or follow the town on Facebook at facebook.com/townofunicoitn. SUMMARY:Theatre Bristol's Christmas Scenes
DESCRIPTION:Theatre Bristol celebrates Christmas this year by bringing its holiday show to its State Street storefront windows during the month of December. This stage right at the street features Christmas Scenes based on traditional stories of Santa\, Mrs. Claus\, and the elves. With a bit of improv and holiday spirit\, Santa’s world comes to life in five walkable scenes of “Santa\, Working from Home too\,” “The North Pole\,” “ ‘A Christmas Carol’ On the Air\,” “Elves at Work… Sort of\,” and “Presents Under the Tree.”\nIn the windows\, Santa and Mrs. Claus are busy at work\, checking lists\, mapping the reindeer journey\, responding to letters\, and reviewing the elves’ toy-making. Sometimes\, though\, it’s time to take a break and make some cookies\, decorate the tree\, or take a nap. Visiting children may catch a glimpse of a wink or a smile from Santa. The elves make toys and wrap gifts to Christmas music all around. There are surprises too\, every visit is a new experience.\nWhile we cannot present our usual holiday production because of COVID\, we are pleased to bring this Christmas production to this new “stage;” offer some joy; and even support downtown Bristol businesses and restaurants with a special attraction. Christmas Scenes gives our creative team and actors a safe opportunity to share their craft and we hope it keeps Theatre Bristol in everyone’s hearts during this time.\nThe activity is free of charge\, and the Santa schedule and updates are available on Theatre Bristol’s Facebook page and at www.TheatreBristol.org. Donations to support the performing arts can be made at TheatreBristol.org/donate.

Whatever the city\, the objective is the same: to see The Nutcracker\, considered a holiday classic all over the world. Since it’s not possible to gather in the theatre this year\, the Kingsport Ballet and NPAC are bringing The Nutcracker to you virtually!\nThe Nutcracker is a story ballet performed in two acts\, based on the German tale\, The Nutcracker and the King of Mice. Pyotr Tchaikovsky\, a prominent composer already famous for his ballet scores of Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty\, set it to music. It was choreographed by the legendary Marius Petipa.\nThe Nutcracker gives us a glimpse of old-world tradition. It provides the warmth\, laughter\, and delight of a family celebration\, while interweaving fantasy and mystery to create a tale that everyone can enjoy.\nMost of us have had a time in our lives when we have felt ugly or unimportant\, but then someone comes along who believes in us\, and loves us for who we are\, not what we look like or what we can do. This person becomes our hero or heroine\, forever holding a special place in our hearts\, and we want to do whatever we can to honor them and make them feel special in return. Clara in The Nutcracker is just such a heroine. When everyone else sees the Nutcracker as a worthless\, ugly\, wooden doll\, in Clara’s imagination\, he is instead a true\, kind-hearted hero. She loves him with all of her heart\, and because she shows kindness to him\, he gives her the most beautiful Christmas gift that she receives: the gift of a glorious dream. Watch along and you will discover the wonderful tale of The Nutcracker.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick Here To Purchase Tickets
