SUMMARY:The First and Last Town in Tennessee
DESCRIPTION:The McKinney Center will debut a new play in February that is 250 years in the making. The\nFirst and Last Town in Tennessee shares stories from Jonesborough’s past and present to\ncommemorate America’s Semiquincentennial. Written by Program Manager Anne G’Fellers-\nMason\, the play takes the audience on a journey from 1779\, the year of Jonesborough’s\nfounding\, to present day.\n“The title of the play is a combination of a nod to the Oldest Town in Tennessee as well as a\nreport from 1801 that referred to Jonesborough as\, ‘the last town in Tennessee\,’” Mason\nexplains. “For a moment\, Jonesborough was the edge of the Western frontier. We have such rich\nhistory right here with amazing stories that are a part of the American dream and experience\, and\nwe wanted to combine all that into this production. Where else do you get a chance to include\nstories about Governor John Sevier and President Andrew Jackson alongside Alfred Greenlee\,\nwho was known as a friend to all\, Beverly Jenkins of Main Street Café & Catering\, and Jimmy\nNeil Smith\, the founder of the National Storytelling Festival. All the major American events\, the\nRevolutionary War\, the Civil War\, the Civil Rights Movement\, and so on\, each of these played\nout on the local level\, and this play will capture that.”\nThe show includes a large cast of multiple ages. Characters in the play include the Shanks Oak\n(Jonesborough’s Heritage Tree)\, Julia Bullard Nelson (teacher at the Warner Institute and a\nsuffragette)\, longtime resident Jimmy Rhein\, Marat Moore (journalist/miner/advocate)\, David\nDeaderick (Jonesborough’s first merchant)\, Jesse Walton (Revolutionary War soldier)\, Ella\nRussell (only hospital trained nurse in town in the early 1900s)\, Elihu Embree (editor and\npublisher of The Emancipator)\, and so many more. The play will include music and dancing and\nwill be an experience for the whole family. The play will serve as the kick-off to the 250 th\ncelebration in Jonesborough. \n“Want to feel connected to your community\, country\, and past? You’ll want to come and see this\nplay. It’s the perfect opportunity to commemorate and think about where we’ve come from and\nwhat we’ve overcome as a country\, and to look ahead to the next 250 years. This is a once in a\nlifetime experience that you won’t want to miss\,” Mason assures.\nThe First and Last Town in Tennessee will run February 27 th \, 28 th \, and March 1 st . There will also\nbe a second weekend of shows on March 6 th \, 7 th \, and 8 th . Shows will take place at 7:30 pm on\nFridays and Saturdays and 2:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $20.00 for general\nadmission and $18.00 for seniors 55 and over as well as groups of 8 or more. The matinee on\nMarch 1 st is a special\, “Pay What You Can” performance with a $2.50 suggested donation. Seats\nmust be reserved for all performances\, including the “Pay What You Can” performance. Tickets\ncan be purchased at Jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Visitors Center at 423-753-1010.\nThis project is supported in part by the Tennessee Commission for the United States\nSemiquincentennial and sponsored by Bravissima: Women Supporting the Arts.\nAbout the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington: The mission of the McKinney Center at\nBooker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B.\nMartin Program for the Arts which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality\nprogram of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. In addition\, a\nprimary mission of the Center is to enhance minority participation in the planning and\nimplementation in all activities in Jonesborough while specifically celebrating the contribution\nof the African-American community in the growth and development of the Town. The activities of\nthe McKinney Center are designed to enhance the quality of life of all Jonesborough residents.\nStoryTown is dedicated to bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds in\nJonesborough to strengthen our community and enrich the lives of those who live here through\nthe power of our stories.

SUMMARY:Tab Benoit with Paul Thorn
DESCRIPTION:Paramount Bristol Presents\n\n\n\nTab Benoit with Paul Thorn\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSun\, March 1\, 2026\n\n\nDoors: 6:30 pm / Show: 7:30 pm\n\n\n$34.53 – $91.50 (prices include all applicable fees and taxes) / Members save at least $5 per ticket\n\nBUY TICKETS\n\n\nTAB BENOIT \nTab Benoit is a 4x Grammy nominated singer\, songwriter and guitarist who has built a remarkable 30+ year career on the foundation of his gritty and soulful Delta swamp blues\, acquiring a devoted legion of fans along the way\, as well as 5 Blues Music Awards\, including BB King Entertainer of the Year (twice) and an induction into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. \nPAUL THORN \nWhen it comes to songwriting\, less is more\, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn\, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads\, hearts\, hips or the occasional funny bone\, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras\, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. \nOur Box Office opens 2 hours before showtime. For shows not already sold out\, tickets will be available at the door on the day of show for an additional cost of $5 (+tax and service fee). BUYER BEWARE! Third party tickets (StubHub\, eTix\, VividSeats\, etc.) will NOT be honored. Tickets are available via paramountbristol.org or our Box Office ONLY. All sales are final. Refunds and exchanges are not permitted. Outside food and drinks are not allowed.

SUMMARY:Stories 'n More
DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for the heart of storytelling in the town that basically invented the modern revival of the art\, Stories ‘n More is where the magic happens. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild\, this weekly event is a staple of Tuesday nights in Tennessee’s oldest town. It’s less of a formal performance and more of a warm\, communal gathering where the oral tradition truly breathes. \n\n\nThe Atmosphere\nThe vibe is intimate and authentic. Held at the International Storytelling Center (or occasionally nearby local venues like the McKinney Center)\, the evening feels like sitting in a very large\, very talented living room. \nWhat to Expect\n\n\nDiverse Tellers: You’ll hear from seasoned professionals who have graced national stages\, alongside guild members honing new material. \n\n\nThe “More” in the Name: While the focus is on spoken-word stories\, you’ll often find the night peppered with poetry\, acoustic music\, or personal tall tales. \n\n\nA Living Art: Unlike a recorded podcast\, these stories change based on the energy of the room. It’s interactive\, raw\, and deeply human. \n\n\nThe Details\n\n\nWhen: Every Tuesday night. \n\n\nTime: Usually kicks off at 7:00 PM. \n\n\nLocation: International Storytelling Center\, Jonesborough\, TN. \n\n\nCost: Generally\, a small donation is suggested at the door to support the Guild’s mission. \n\n\n\n\nPro Tip: Jonesborough takes its storytelling seriously\, but the Guild keeps it accessible. Whether you’re a local or just passing through\, it’s one of the most “authentic” Appalachian experiences you can find without needing to hike a trail.

SUMMARY:The First and Last Town in Tennessee
DESCRIPTION:The McKinney Center will debut a new play in February that is 250 years in the making. The First and Last Town in Tennessee shares stories from Jonesborough’s past and present to commemorate America’s Semiquincentennial. Written by Program Manager Anne G’Fellers-Mason\, the play takes the audience on a journey from 1779\, the year of Jonesborough’s founding\, to present day. \n \n“The title of the play is a combination of a nod to the Oldest Town in Tennessee as well as a report from 1801 that referred to Jonesborough as\, ‘the last town in Tennessee\,’” Mason explains. “For a moment\, Jonesborough was the edge of the Western frontier. We have such a rich history right here with amazing stories that are a part of the American dream and experience\, and we wanted to combine all that into this production. Where else do you get a chance to include stories about Governor John Sevier and President Andrew Jackson alongside Alfred Greenlee\, who was known as a friend to all\, Beverly Jenkins of Main Street Café & Catering\, and Jimmy Neil Smith\, the founder of the National Storytelling Festival. All the major American events\, the Revolutionary War\, the Civil War\, the Civil Rights Movement\, and so on\, each of these played out on the local level\, and this play will capture that.” \n \nThe show includes a large cast of multiple ages. Characters in the play include the Shanks Oak (Jonesborough’s Heritage Tree)\, Julia Bullard Nelson (teacher at the Warner Institute and a suffragette)\, longtime resident Jimmy Rhein\, Marat Moore (journalist/miner/advocate)\, David Deaderick (Jonesborough’s first merchant)\, Jesse Walton (Revolutionary War soldier)\, Ella Russell (only hospital trained nurse in town in the early 1900s)\, Elihu Embree (editor and publisher of The Emancipator)\, and so many more. The play will include music and dancing and will be an experience for the whole family. The play will serve as the kick-off to the 250th celebration in Jonesborough. \n \n“Want to feel connected to your community\, country\, and past? You’ll want to come and see this play. It’s the perfect opportunity to commemorate and think about where we’ve come from and what we’ve overcome as a country\, and to look ahead to the next 250 years. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you won’t want to miss\,” Mason assures. \n \nThe First and Last Town in Tennessee will run February 27\, 28\, and March 1. There will also be a second weekend of shows on March 6\, 7\, and 8. Shows will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $20.00 for general admission and $18.00 for seniors 55 and over\, as well as groups of 8 or more. The matinee on March 1 is a special\, “Pay What You Can” performance with a $2.50 suggested donation. Seats must be reserved for all performances\, including the “Pay What You Can” performance. Tickets can be purchased at Jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Visitors Center at 423.753.1010. \n \nThis project is supported in part by the Tennessee Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial. \n \n##### \n \nAbout the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington: The mission of the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts\, which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality program of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. In addition\, a primary mission of the Center is to enhance minority participation in the planning and implementation in all activities in Jonesborough while specifically celebrating the contribution of the African-American community in the growth and development of the Town.
