SUMMARY:Stories by the Stitch Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Heritage Alliance and The McKinney Center invite students to explore history in a creative\, hands-on way through a special textiles and weaving workshop inspired by the “Stories by the Stitch” exhibit at the Jonesborough Washington County History Museum.\n\nThe workshop will take place on Thursday\, May 28\, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The session will begin with the Heritage Alliance team sharing examples of regional textiles\, discussing the history and significance of textile creation\, and providing students with the opportunity to handle authentic artifacts. Following this historical introduction\, the McKinney Center team will lead a weaving workshop in which students will work on small frame looms\, learn basic weaving terminology\, and apply their knowledge to create their own projects. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with various types of yarn to design a unique woven piece to take home.\n\nAll materials will be provided. Space is limited to 16 students\, and advance registration is required. The workshop will be held at the Jonesborough Washington County History Museum\, located within the Jonesborough Visitors Center. The program is free of charge and is open to students in grades 3 through 5.
