DESCRIPTION:Join the Jackson Theatre and the McKinney Center for a series of programs celebrating local history and America’s 250th birthday. Tales of Our 250th includes skits\, historians\, re-enactors\, musicians\, and much more in a tapestry of Jonesborough stories and community history. These events will run June–October and start at 7:00 pm at The Jackson Theatre\, located at 121 W. Main Street in downtown Jonesborough. They are Pay What You Can\, but go ahead and reserve your seats at thejacksontheatre.com.\n\nEach evening will include a scene or scenes from the original play The First and Last Town in Tennessee\, written by Anne G’Fellers-Mason\, which premiered earlier this year at the McKinney Center and was featured in The New York Times. Join Jonesborough historian Paul Fink\, portrayed by Tim Herron\, as he walks you through the big and small moments that make Jonesborough an important part of the American story.\n\nProgramming dates and times are listed below. Acts are subject to change. Each performance will last about 90 minutes.\n● June 25th – Historic Preservation in Jonesborough with Dr. William Kennedy and a performance by The Ozone Rangers\n● July 23rd – Revolutionary War History featuring re-enactors from Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park and a performance by the Watauga Valley Fife and Drum Corps\n● August 20th – African American History in Jonesborough with a special performance of the original play Nancy presented by the Heritage Alliance – Student program at 10:00 am\n● September 24th – The Lost State of Franklin with a presentation by Dr. William Hardy from MTSU and the stories behind the Battle of the State of Franklin with Tipton-Haynes State Historic Site\n● October 22nd – Civil War History in Northeast TN with Dr. Tom Lee from ETSU and a performance by the 52nd Regimental String Band. – Student program at 10:00 am\nSpecial student performances for school groups will take place on August 20th and October 22nd at 10:00 am. Guests will enjoy an 18th-century-inspired dinner featuring recipes from Mount Vernon\, period music by Muster Grounds Musick\, a traditional fife and drum corps\, a cash bar featuring 18th-century-inspired cocktails and a selection of bourbons\, and a special presentation by George and Martha Washington offering a glimpse into the lives\, leadership and personal stories of America’s first presidential couple.\nDoors open at 6 p.m.\, with music beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the Washingtons taking the stage at 7:15 p.m. Each dinner ticket includes one complimentary drink ticket for an alcoholic beverage\, with additional beverages available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:Regarded as one of the world’s preeminent slide guitar virtuosos\, Lee Roy Parnell has become synonymous with the instrument and the music that has shaped his life from his youngest years. \nBorn in Abilene\, Texas to Roy and Anna Belle Parnell in the winter of 1956\, Parnell was raised with an uncompromising work ethic\, a healthy respect for tradition\, and an unquenchable love of music. Nurtured by everything from the Grand Ol’ Opry\, to Cotton-country Blues\, Hardshell Gospel and the inescapable sound of Bob Wills and Roadhouse Boogie that permeated the North Central Texas plains\, that love grew into a passion before Parnell reached his early teens. \n“It sounds a little like a press-release\,” he said recently\, “but the truth is I was raised in a house filled with music. It was as much a part of the soundtrack of youth as my mother’s voice and my Daddy’s lessons. It was sustenance to me…like water. And it was my way out of Texas. It was my map.” \nIn the summer of seventy-four\, he set out for the only destination on that map that made sense: Nashville. \nFor nearly twenty years\, Parnell paid his dues in every honky-tonk and blues bar from Nashville to Austin and back\, honing his craft\, sharpening his vocal chops\, and fine-tuning the blues-infused slide-guitar style that would become his signature. \n“I’m a blue-eyed country soul singer and slide guitar player by trade…that’s how I see it\,” Parnell told a Texas journalist late in 2014. “And I’m privileged to practice a trade that’s brought so many blessings to my life.” \nBlessings that include eight critically-acclaimed albums\, and a string of hits that established him as one of Country Music’s most gifted triple-threats; as a singer\, a writer\, and virtuoso guitarist. DESCRIPTION:Tales of Our 250th continues at the Jackson Theatre on July 23rd with a show dedicated to the Revolutionary War era and the individuals who helped to forge a new nation. Learn more about Willie Jones\, the namesake of Jonesborough\, Jesse Walton\, John Sevier\, and the Overmountain Men who marched to fight at King’s Mountain with scenes from the original play The First and Last Town in Tennessee.\n\nThe evening will include a special presentation from Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Sycamore Shoals was the site of the Watauga Association\, the Transylvania Purchase\, and the muster before the march to King’s Mountain. Many historic events happened at Fort Watauga. Chad Bogart and other re-enactors will share the stories of Reverend Doak\, gunpowder maker Mary Patton\, and many more. The Watauga Valley Fife and Drum Corps will also share period appropriate music. Come out and learn about the revolutionary history that happened in your own backyard.\n\nCelebrate America’s 250th birthday with the McKinney Center and StoryTown at the Jackson Theatre. Join Jonesborough historian Paul Fink\, portrayed by Tim Herron\, as he walks you through the big and small moments that make Jonesborough an important part of the American story.\n\nProgramming dates and times are listed below. In Jonesborough\, you do not have to look for the history. It is already there when you walk downtown. \n \nThe Parade Runs Straight Through Main Street \nThings kick off July 3 at 10 a.m. with the Jonesborough Days Parade on Historic Main Street. Floats\, music\, and local groups move through downtown as people line the sidewalks. \nMost folks bring a chair and find a spot along the route. People start showing up early and Main Street just keeps filling in. \nBy the time it starts\, the whole street is already buzzing. \n  \n \nDowntown Is the Experience\nDuring the festival\, downtown Jonesborough becomes the heart of everything happening. \nLive music and storytelling take place at the Jackson Theatre throughout the day. Just steps away\, more than 50 vendor booths line the streets with handmade goods like pottery\, jewelry\, soaps\, spoon rings\, and local art. \nFood trucks and festival favorites are spread throughout downtown\, so it is easy to grab something and keep walking around. \n  \n \nSomething for Every Age\, All Weekend Long\nPatriot Park\, located behind the International Storytelling Center\, is a favorite stop for families. Kids will find inflatables\, water play\, and hands on crafts from the McKinney Center. \nAnd yes\, the 8th Annual MoonPie Eating Contest is back again.
