When he is not on the road\, he makes his home in Summerville\, South Carolina\, where he often performs stories of southern culture and history from the “Sweet Tea Trail.”  He has recorded a number of storytelling CDs\, filmed a DVD\, and written a storytelling handbook. “From the time he took to the stage\, Tim Lowry claimed the full attention of his audience.  They followed him wherever he was performing.  They loved Tim’s style\, his humor\, his material and the man himself.”  – Connecticut Storytelling Festival \n\nOne of America’s most celebrated storytellers\, Connie Regan-Blake has captivated the hearts and imaginations of people with her powerful performances. Recognized in the storytelling community with the NSN ORACLE Circle of Excellence\, Distinguished Service\, and Lifetime Achievement awards\, Regan-Blake has recently been invited by the Library of Congress to house the compilation of memorabilia from her life’s work as a storyteller\, including her role in the birth and beginnings of the American Storytelling Revival. “With artful direction she lures us into the depths of joy and terror\, hilarity and grief. One minute we feel the pangs of regret\, revenge\, even the chill hand of death . . . in the very next story we luxuriate in the rib-bursting laughter of a mountain Jack Tale. It’s all part of the storyteller’s magic.” – School Library Journal

SUMMARY:Heritage Alliance to Premiere Original Play “Nancy” on June 19 at Embree House Historic Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Heritage Alliance will host an original play\, “Nancy\,” in honor of Juneteenth on Saturday\, June 19 at 1 p.m.\, 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the historic Embree House in Telford. The show will last an hour\, and there will be a Q&A session and a chance to tour parts of the Embree House after each performance. \n  \nJune 19 is recognized as Juneteenth\, or Emancipation Day\, a celebration of the day that word of emancipation finally reached a group of enslaved people in Galveston\, Texas in June of 1865. The Heritage Alliance invites you to join them as they celebrate Nancy and tell her story.    \n  \nIn 1820\, Elihu Embree published his newspaper The Emancipator on Main Street\, Jonesborough. The seven edition paper is the first publication dedicated solely to the cause of abolitionism. Embree passed away in December of 1820\, and the paper died with him. Even though it was short-lived\, The Emancipator had over 2\,000 subscribers and its reach went all the way to Boston and Philadelphia. In spite of his abolitionist beliefs\, Embree himself was an enslaver. Nancy was an enslaved woman owned by Elihu Embree\, and her story will be told in this original play “Nancy.” \n  \nWritten by Anne G’Fellers-Mason\, Executive Director of the Heritage Alliance\, “Nancy” will follow a year in the woman’s life\, from January 1820 when Elihu Embree wrote his will to January 1821 when his will was read before the Washington County court. The play is based on primary research relying heavily on documents from the Washington County Archives. The role of Nancy will be performed by local actress Ubunibi-Afia Short. \n  \n“I’ve wanted to tell Nancy’s story for a long time\,” says Mason. “It’s an honor to have such an amazing actress to help tell it. I believe Nancy’s story shows just how complicated the system of enslavement was in the United States and how unjust it was. We know Embree’s story so well. It’s past time we know Nancy’s.” \n  \nTickets are $12 and proceeds from ticket sales will help fund the educational programs of the Heritage Alliance. You can purchase tickets through Jonesborough’s online system at jonesborough.com/tickets or by calling the Visitor’s Center at 423.753.1010. Seating is limited\, so purchase tickets in advance.

SUMMARY:Simple Elegance Bridal Show
DESCRIPTION:The Simple Elegance Bridal Show and some of the Tri-Cities highly respected wedding professionals announced that they are having a collective wedding giveaway! \n“We will do the giveaway similar to a HGTV Dream Home contest. We’ll give 2 or 3 choices for people to pick from every week. For example\, we will give our social media followers a rustic chic or modern romantic theme to choose from. Whatever they pick\, we’ll give them the next choice that follows based on their previous choice\, and so on\,” said Mary Grace Wooten\, the bridal show organizer. \n“We realize that there are many hardships due to COVID 19\, but love is not canceled. So we think this will be fun!” Wooten continued. “Couples have to agree to the contest’s terms and conditions\, which are on our website and social media. For example\, they would have to be OK with our vendors and their services (not choosing to replace any of our vendors with their own vendors) and also be okay with the wedding planning choices picked by those voting on social media.” \nThe wedding giveaway includes a venue\, Allandale Mansion in Kingsport\, a wedding cake by Cakes by Lillian\, catering for up to 25 people by Food City\, 2 photographers\, Southern Grace Studios and Through His Eyes Photography\, a DJ from Musicality Mobile DJ Service\, video invitations from The Video Guy\, flowers from Simply Yours\, and decoration & china by Venue Decor and More. \nThe Bristol Bridal Station will give the lucky bride a wedding gown valued up to $500 and a formal dress for the honeymoon\, reception\, or shower valued up to $100. Starr Creations will do the bride’s hair and makeup. The lucky groom will wear a tux from Moon Tuxedo. “We recommend that all couples submit a 30-60 second video describing their dream wedding and give us some ideas of what to pick for them\,“ Wooten added. The winner will be announced a day after the bridal show which will be held on Sunday\, September 20 at The Heritage event venue in Jonesborough. \nFor more information about the wedding giveaway and bridal show\, please visit simpleelegancebridalshow.com or find them on Facebook and Instagram @simpleelegancebridalshow.
