SUMMARY:Tennessee NICA Race Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Student-athletes from across Tennessee will hit the trails at Winged Deer Lakeside Park October 10-11 for Event #4 of the 2026 Tennessee Interscholastic Cycling League season. Hosted with Johnson City Parks & Recreation and Visit Johnson City\, the event will feature a 4-mile course with flowing trails\, rocky terrain\, and lakefront views. \n  \nSaturday will include skills clinics\, team activities\, and a course preview\, followed by racing Sunday across divisions from fifth grade through high school varsity. The weekend will wrap up with closing ceremonies and podium presentations at 3:30pm. \n  \n“We’re excited to team up with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association to bring this race to Johnson City for a second straight year. Last year’s inaugural event was a tremendous success\, showcasing Winged Deer Park and our city to nearly 500 cyclists and their families. We look forward to another great weekend of racing and to celebrating cyclists from our area and across the state\,” said David Compton\, Community Engagement Specialist with Johnson City Parks & Recreation. \n  \nBeyond the competition\, Tennessee NICA promotes fun\, inclusivity\, equity\, respect\, and community through cycling. Spectators are invited to cheer on student-athletes throughout the weekend\, enjoy a movie night featuring Super Mario Galaxy at Goulding Amphitheatre on Saturday\, and try a variety of food trucks on Sunday. \n  \n“In our first year\, we had fantastic participation and excitement from teams and families across Tennessee. This year\, we expect even more enthusiasm from the local community and across the state\, powered by Tennessee NICA certified coaches and volunteers. We are guided by our mission and vision\, which is to provide fun and safe bicycling programs for 5th through 12th-grade students from Tennessee schools and communities. Our hope is to continue growing the sport of mountain biking statewide\, highlighting how fun and enjoyable cycling can be for everyone\,” said Katherine King Williams\, Tennessee League Director. \n  \nA hard road closure will be in effect on Carroll Creek Road between Johnson City Fire Station 9 and Kinch Landing from 8:30am to 3pm on Sunday\, October 11. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to maximize cyclist safety\, as well as allow additional travel time. \n  \nFor event details\, including the schedule\, parking\, and volunteer opportunities\, visit https://tennesseemtb.org/events/. \n  \nVisit Johnson City invests in the promotion and development of the community’s distinctive experiences to drive sustainable economic growth and quality of place. \n  \nJohnson City Parks & Recreation is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in our community by providing safe\, welcoming spaces and a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all ages.
