SUMMARY:Stories 'n More
DESCRIPTION:If you’re looking for the heart of storytelling in the town that basically invented the modern revival of the art\, Stories ‘n More is where the magic happens. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by the Jonesborough Storytellers Guild\, this weekly event is a staple of Tuesday nights in Tennessee’s oldest town. It’s less of a formal performance and more of a warm\, communal gathering where the oral tradition truly breathes. \n\n\nThe Atmosphere\nThe vibe is intimate and authentic. Held at the International Storytelling Center (or occasionally nearby local venues like the  McKinney Center)\, the evening feels like sitting in a very large\, very talented living room. \nWhat to Expect\n\n\nDiverse Tellers: You’ll hear from seasoned professionals who have graced national stages\, alongside guild members honing new material. \n\n\nThe “More” in the Name: While the focus is on spoken-word stories\, you’ll often find the night peppered with poetry\, acoustic music\, or personal tall tales. \n\n\nA Living Art: Unlike a recorded podcast\, these stories change based on the energy of the room. It’s interactive\, raw\, and deeply human. \n\n\nThe Details\n\n\nWhen: Every Tuesday night. \n\n\nTime: Usually kicks off at 7:00 PM. \n\n\nLocation: International Storytelling Center\, Jonesborough\, TN. \n\n\nCost: Generally\, a small donation is suggested at the door to support the Guild’s mission. \n\n\n\n\nPro Tip: Jonesborough takes its storytelling seriously\, but the Guild keeps it accessible. Whether you’re a local or just passing through\, it’s one of the most “authentic” Appalachian experiences you can find without needing to hike a trail.

This program delivers both. We’re gonna do something old and archaic\, which will probably be something new and different. We’re gonna record our very own Kris Truelsen from Radio Bristol onto a “wax” cylinder with 100+ year old equipment\, and we’re gonna do it WITHOUT electricity and wires! This is a great opportunity to learn more about how early recordings were made and see the work in action. \n\nREGISTER TO ATTEND IN PERSON HERE \n\nDate: Tuesday\, April 14\, 2026 \n\n\nTime: 7 p.m. ET \n\n\nLocation: In-person at the Birthplace of Country Music\, Performance Theater and streamed on Radio Bristol’s YouTube Channel \n\n\nCost: Free and open to the public \n  \n\n\nMartin Fisher joined the Center for Popular Music staff at MTSU in September of 2005 having accumulated and maintained a private collection of sound recordings for over 30 years and having 18 years experience in the field of television production with NewsChannel 5\, WTVF in Nashville\, Tennessee. Fisher also plays the trombone and is a self-taught fiddler who performs regularly with the Nashville Old Time String Band Association. His responsibilities include preserving\, maintaining and augmenting the Center’s sound recordings collection\, assisting researchers in locating and obtaining copies of recordings\, and conducting acoustical “wax” cylinder recording demonstrations as part of the Center’s outreach program. Martin is also a member of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections and Tennessee Folklore Society.

SUMMARY:Donald Davis Concert
DESCRIPTION:Donald Davis Storytelling Concert at The Jackson Theatre\nApril 13 & 14 at 7:30 p.m.\nDonald Davis\, one of America’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Jackson Theatre on April 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. The two-night storytelling concert will feature Davis telling different stories each evening.\nDavis was born in a Southern Appalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, I just absorbed them\,” Davis says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781.\nDavis’ resume includes Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, work as a retired Methodist minister\, and former chairperson of the board of directors for the National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the National Storytelling Festival and has also served as a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institution\, the World’s Fair\, as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the world.\nFor Donald Davis\, storytelling is a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\, pull deep inside for one’s own stories\, and share in the common experiences that celebrate the creative spirit. For Donald Davis\, storytelling “is not what I do for a living\, but it is how I do all that I do while I am living.”\nThe performances will take place at The Jackson Theatre in historic downtown Jonesborough.\nEnjoy two nights of stories from Donald Davis with general admission each evening being $16. A special group rate for 15 or more people is available for $13 per person.\nTickets at www.thejacksontheatre.com. Follow @thejacksontheatre on social media for updates and upcoming events.\n\n#####\n\nAbout The Jackson Theatre: The Jackson Theatre is a fully restored theatre in the heart of historic downtown Jonesborough. Serving as a vibrant hub for the arts\, it now operates as a music venue\, theater\, and film house\, bringing entertainment and culture to the community again. SUMMARY:Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star
DESCRIPTION:The Jackson Theatre will present Vernon Dalhart: First Country Music Star on Friday\, April 17 at 7:00pm\, in partnership with the International Storytelling Center. This special evening of words and music celebrates one of the most influential recording artists of the 1920s and 1930s.\n\nVernon Dalhart was the first artist to record a million-selling country hit with the two-sided 78 RPM disc featuring “The Wreck of the Old ’97” and “The Prisoner’s Song.” Both recordings are enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame\, and Dalhart was later inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A prolific artist by any standard\, he made more than 4\,000 recordings between 1916 and 1939.\n\nDespite his massive impact\, Dalhart’s legacy has often been overlooked. Many legendary performers\, including Dolly Parton\, Marty Robbins\, Johnny Cash\, Willie Nelson\, Doc Watson\, Bill Monroe\, and Mac Wiseman\, have covered songs first recorded by Dalhart\, helping to carry his influence through generations of American music.\n\nDrawing on five years of research\, music historian Dr. Ted Olson will share the story of Dalhart’s diverse career and explore why his contributions have faded from the spotlight. Jack Hinshelwood\, a multi-instrumentalist and singer\, will provide the live soundtrack\, performing faithful renditions of classics such as “Wreck of the Old ’97\,” “The Prisoner’s Song\,” “Home on the Range\,” “Jesse James\,” “The Big Rock Candy Mountains\,” “My Blue Ridge Mountain Home\,” and more songs that helped shape early country music.\nThis event is part of the Jackson Theatre’s ongoing collaboration with the International Storytelling Center\, highlighting shared programming rooted in storytelling and music.\n\nTickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show. Tickets and more information are available at thejacksontheatre.com.\n\n#####

While many city names are duplicated throughout the U.S.\, there’s only one Kingsport – a fact that invokes community pride\, known locally as the “Kingsport Spirit.” For more information\, please visit www.kingsporttn.gov.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Jon Stetson
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time \n\n\nSat\, Apr 18\, 2026\n7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EDT \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation \n\n\n\nAppalachian Auditorium at St. James \n3220 Saint James Road \nGreeneville\, TN 37743 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDescription \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOptional dinner starts at 5 pm (menu to be announced). Reservations are appreciated at 423-329-4453. \nJon Stetson is the one Entertainer/Speaker who understands the importance of capturing the Mind share and the Heart share of his audiences. As America’s Master Mentalist\, he was the inspiration for the show “The Mentalist”. \nThe Stetson Experience is intelligent\, interactive\, sophisticated fun. Along with hundreds of corporate appearances\, Jon has performed for three U.S. Presidents\, The King of Sweden\, The Royal Family of Monaco\, and has appeared on several major Television Networks. \nInterjecting uproarious comedy into each program\, Jon creates a hilarious and unique presentation that never fails to blow the audience away. Stetson blends the art of Mystery with the study of Psychology\, the predictability of human nature and the power of intuition\, with a disarming sense of humor as he really like fun and games like WoW Classic\, learn more about this game here. The result is slack jawed amazement\, where the most skeptical of audience members begin to feel a renewed sense of wonder as impossibilities become realities. \nJon Stetson’s engaging programs are packed with audience participation. Imaginations are wowed\, stretched and captured\, as thoughts are revealed and minds are being read\, with Jon’s intriguing games of mind to mind contact. \n  \nThought Reading has never been this much fun!
