DESCRIPTION:Donald Davis Storytelling Concert at The Jackson Theatre\nApril 13 & 14 at 7:30 p.m.\nDonald Davis\, one of America’s favorite master storytellers\, is coming to the Jackson Theatre on April 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. The two-night storytelling concert will feature Davis telling different stories each evening.\nDavis was born in a Southern Appalachian Mountain world that was rich in stories. “I didn’t learn stories\, I just absorbed them\,” Davis says as he recounts tales learned from a family of traditional storytellers who lived on the same Western North Carolina land since 1781.\nDavis’ resume includes Davidson College\, Duke University Divinity School\, work as a retired Methodist minister\, and former chairperson of the board of directors for the National Storytelling Association. He is a favorite at the National Storytelling Festival and has also served as a featured teller at the Smithsonian Institution\, the World’s Fair\, as well as festivals and concerts throughout the United States and the world.\nFor Donald Davis\, storytelling is a way of giving and living life. He invites each listener to come along\, pull deep inside for one’s own stories\, and share in the common experiences that celebrate the creative spirit. We’re gonna record our very own Kris Truelsen from Radio Bristol onto a “wax” cylinder with 100+ year old equipment\, and we’re gonna do it WITHOUT electricity and wires! Fisher also plays the trombone and is a self-taught fiddler who performs regularly with the Nashville Old Time String Band Association. His responsibilities include preserving\, maintaining and augmenting the Center’s sound recordings collection\, assisting researchers in locating and obtaining copies of recordings\, and conducting acoustical “wax” cylinder recording demonstrations as part of the Center’s outreach program. Martin is also a member of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections and Tennessee Folklore Society.

DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an evening under the stars\, floating along the Bays Mountain Reservoir\, safely from the comfort of your own kayak. It’ll be a cool and relaxing evening like no other.\n\nBays Mountain Park is pleased to bring back the kayak stargazing program this spring. The program is an astronomy class with a twist where you’ll learn about the constellations\, the Moon and the viewable planets with the naked eye.\n\nKayak Stargazing programs will be held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 14\, 16 and 21\, and from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on May 7\, 12 and 14. The cost is $5 for park members and $10 for non-members. A prolific artist by any standard\, he made more than 4\,000 recordings between 1916 and 1939.\n\nDespite his massive impact\, Dalhart’s legacy has often been overlooked. Many legendary performers\, including Dolly Parton\, Marty Robbins\, Johnny Cash\, Willie Nelson\, Doc Watson\, Bill Monroe\, and Mac Wiseman\, have covered songs first recorded by Dalhart\, helping to carry his influence through generations of American music.\n\nDrawing on five years of research\, music historian Dr. Ted Olson will share the story of Dalhart’s diverse career and explore why his contributions have faded from the spotlight. DESCRIPTION:Kingsport Cultural Arts is excited to announce the return of the Kingsport Arts Festival. Now in its third year\, this one-day event showcases the talents of our region’s best artists and creatives.\nThe festival will take place from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 18 in the 100 block of Shelby Street and feature the following events and activities:\n\n\nChalk art and large canvas finger painting for kids\nGlassblowing with Ryan Gothrup\nIron Pour with WNC Sculpture\nJuggling\, music and storytelling\nRaku Ceramics Firing with the Clay Gurus\nTie Dye festival shirts with Engage Kingsport\nWatercolor painting for teens and adults\n\n\nThe one-day festival will also feature more than a dozen local and regional vendors\, a gallery crawl and a number of demonstrations by local art groups.\n“As in previous years\, the Kingsport Arts Festival aims to showcase creativity and engagement\, where folks can come down and see these works of art being formed before their very eyes\,” said Program Leader Linore Huss. “We believe people will not only come away excited\, but also inspired by what they learned and created themselves.”\nThe Kingsport Arts Festival is a partnership between Kingsport Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport.\n\nAbout Kingsport Cultural Arts\nKingsport Cultural Arts connects\, coordinates and engages the public with a creative community. We operate the Renaissance Arts Center\, the Farmers Market Pavilion\, the Kingsport Carousel\, the Kingsport Arts Festival\, Kingsport Public Art Program and a broad range of support to the area’s arts organizations. KCA works in tandem with Engage Kingsport\, Inc.\, the “Friends of the Cultural Arts” group\, a private\, volunteer-led 501(c)3 non-profit community organization. The\nsite has been described as one of the finest examples of Federal architecture in the State of Tennessee. Take in the colorful\nand architecturally detailed interior while learning about the influential Taylor family who called Sabine Hill home in the\nearly 19th century. Please note\, only portable toilet facilities are available at this time. Accessibility to the home includes\nsteps and an interior staircase.
