The Jackson Theatre is proud to welcome Colby T. Helms and the Virginia Creepers to the Ballad Stage at The Jackson Theatre on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 8 p.m. Known for his heartfelt songwriting and deep connection to Appalachian music, Colby’s performances resonate with audiences through authenticity, heritage, and raw emotion.
Growing up in Boones Mill, Virginia, on land his family has owned for generations, Colby’s musical journey began at age 12. Inspired by bluegrass musicians who performed at his father’s funeral, Colby taught himself guitar, banjo, and mandolin. By age 16, he was traveling across the Blue Ridge and Appalachian regions, playing anywhere people would listen.
Colby’s debut album, Tales of Misfortune, released on January 19, 2024, reflects his life, loss, and resilience, set against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Highlights include:
- “Mountain Brandy” – A tribute to home and family roots.
- “Higher Ground” – A reflection on sacrifice and chasing dreams.
- “Daddy’s Pocket Knife” – A powerful closer about loss, rediscovery, and perseverance.
The album has been praised for its authenticity and moving storytelling, offering listeners a glimpse into Colby’s world.
Following his performance at The Jackson Theatre, Colby will embark on his “Tales From Virginia” UK Tour in February 2025, with dates in major cities across the United Kingdom. This international tour underscores his growing acclaim and expanding fan base.
