Stay on Target with Kingsport’s Beginner Archery lessons
The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering beginner archery lessons next month for budding bowmen interested in learning about a unique and exciting sport. Take aim this winter, and you’ll be sure to hit the mark.
Classes will be held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. from February 19 through March 12 at the Lynn View Community Center gymnasium (257 Walker Street). Students will enjoy a course covering all aspects of basic archery.
The cost is $40 for city residents and $45 for non-city residents. The lessons are open to anyone ages 7 and up. The maximum number of registrants is 12.
Participants will use compound bows during the classes, and all equipment will be provided.
“Not only is archery a fun and unique activity, but it can also improve your patience, hand-eye coordination and stamina,” said Program Coordinator Renee Ensor. “Even if you’ve never held a bow before, our instructor will guide you through the learning process and you’ll be hitting the bullseye before you know it.”

About the City of Kingsport
Founded in 1917, the City of Kingsport (pop. 55,400) is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the eastern United States. The city is widely known as a planned community, designed by renowned city planner John Nolen and wrapping around the foot of Bays Mountain – a 3,750-acre park, nature preserve, planetarium and observatory. Kingsport is recognized as an International Safe Community by the National Safety Council, a Healthier Tennessee community, and won the 2009 Harvard Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiatives. While many city names are duplicated throughout the U.S., there’s only one Kingsport – a fact that invokes community pride, known locally as the “Kingsport Spirit.” For more information, please visit www.kingsporttn.gov.
