Sycamore Shoals State Park: Tartan Weaving
Wednesday August 11 th
10:30 a.m. “Tartan Weaving” –Join Slade Nakoff as he begins the journey of creating tartan
fabric on a floor loom just as it would have been done during the 18 th century. He will begin with
a simple check and progress onwards towards more complex tartans.
2:00 p.m. “Inkle loom weaving” –See how to use an inkle loom to weave a sash. Learn how
early settles weaved on the frontier as seasonal interpretive ranger Matthew Simerly demonstrate
and explains why weaving is an important skill for people by in the 18 th century to the present
day. Learn how to weave for a hobby or as a craft project inside of the visitor center. Duration 30
minutes.
