Free

Sue Coe began her American career as an illustrator for The New York Times and has contributed drawings to The Nation, Entertainment Weekly, The Progressive, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Artforum, as well as having written four books. Coe is known for her stark renderings of victims and their tormentors. The breadth of her work includes illustrations of violence by the Ku Klux Klan, famine in Africa, AIDS and terrorism in Northern Ireland, as well as politics and “factory farms.” Coe also has been a crusader against the use of animals in industry, medical research and genetic engineering. Through her visual art, Coe continues to raise the public’s awareness of the abuse of living things.
