Melissa Etheridge is an iconic American rock singer-songwriter, known for her confessional lyrics and raspy, smoky vocals. She first stormed onto the music scene in 1988 with her self-titled debut album and rapidly grew in popularity with hits like “Bring Me Some Water” and “No Souvenirs.” Etheridge’s career soared with the release of Yes I Am (1993), which featured the massive hits “I’m the Only One” and “Come to My Window,” earning her a Grammy for Best Female Rock Performance.
Throughout her career, Etheridge has garnered numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Song for “I Need to Wake Up,” written for the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Despite personal struggles, including a breast cancer diagnosis, Etheridge has remained a resilient force in the music industry.
In recent years, Etheridge has continued to evolve, releasing The Medicine Show (2019), One Way Out (2021), and Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken (2024), which includes a two-part docuseries and a live album.
