“Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup” Beer Festival

Amateur brewers from across the nation compete for $10,000  at 2nd Annual “Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup” beer festival

JOHNSON CITY, TN – The 2nd Annual Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup will take place September 25th at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City, TN. The Hoppy Possum’s mission is to showcase homebrew culture and creativity to craft beer lovers from near and far. Festival attendees will experience a new hybrid festival format that keeps the best aspects of a craft beer festival (fancy tasting glasses, unlimited tastings, great music, exciting activities and unique food trucks) and combines it with a home brew competition.

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, once again the very best homebrewers from across the nation will descend upon Northeast Tennessee to compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. It costs nothing  for brewers to compete except their time and their beer. Attendees will pay a gate fee and enjoy unlimited tastings and festival activities all afternoon. Festival goers are encouraged to vote for the offerings they like best, the top 5  beer entries and the top 3 non-beer (cider, mead, etc.) will move on to a final judging panel.

“Hoppy Possum is a place beer lovers are going to find new, exciting, experimental, and creative craft beer” said festival director, Gavin Andrews, “we have brewers coming in from across the US bringing their interpretations of your favorite styles” The “people’s choice” format ensures brewers will offer particularly exciting and experimental creations in an effort to stand out among the expected 175 different beers, ciders, meads, and more.

New for 2021, festival organizers have added a non-beer category. This will allow entry, voting, and prize payout for cider, mead, and other creations. Additionally, a new festival app will be launched prior to the event. This app will provide attendees with a variety of tools to better experience Hoppy Possum and find the libations they love. Features will include a brewer directory, beer descriptions, notes and ranking, and a festival map to name a few.

Hoppy Possum: Southern Brewers Cup will take place September 25th, 2021. VIP entry begins at 1:00PM. General admission opens at 2:00PM. Musical acts include Cincinnati, Ohio based roots and soul band “Brother Smith”, “The Future 26’s” “Fast Nasty”, and “DJ Cody Ryans” and a variety of food and merchandise vendors will be on site as well.
