John R. Miller and Miss Tess

September 7 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us at The Jackson Theatre on Sunday, September 7, at 8 p.m. for a special evening with John R. Miller and Miss Tess.

John R. Miller is a true hyphenate artist, singer, songwriter and picker. His debut solo album Depreciated is lush with intricate wordplay and haunting imagery, backed by a band that brings his vision to life. Roots music favorite Tyler Childers calls him โ€œa well-travelled wordsmith mapping out the world heโ€™s seen, three chords at a time.โ€ With lyrics that move from shadowy honky-tonks to existential reflections, Miller delivers compositions full of nuance and grit.

Depreciated was recorded in Nashvilleโ€™s Sound Emporium Studio A with producers Justin Francis and Adam Meisterhans, and includes eleven original songs that explore themes of home, loss, change, and survival. His sound blends country, folk, blues, and rock, drawing inspiration from heroes like John Prine, Blaze Foley, and J.J. Cale. Millerโ€™s rich voice and vivid songwritingย captures both the ache of the Shenandoah Valley and the emotional terrain of a life in motion.

Raised in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Millerโ€™s music is shaped by the places heโ€™s called home and the roads that pulled him away. Depreciation is the result of years of life experience, musical curiosity, and hard-won clarity.

Opening the evening is Miss Tess, a songwriter, adept multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist whose music defies easy categorization. Her style draws from rhythm and blues, jazz, country blues, rock and roll, and Western swing, never manufactured, always authentic.

Her newest album, Cher Rรชve (out February 7, 2025), is inspired by her ongoing love affair with South Louisiana and the culturally rich region of Acadiana. Though she now lives in Nashville, Miss Tess is a longtime guest of Lafayetteโ€™s beloved Blackpot Festival and Cook Off and has spent years making music with many of the finest musicians in the region. Her long-time musical partner, Thomas Bryan Eaton, brings his own wizardry to the mix, serving as both a key band member and producer.

Miss Tess brings a sound that is soulful, funky, and easy to fall into, a perfect match for this night of music and songwriting at The Jackson Theatre.
