Join Park Ranger Taylor Moorefield for a demonstration of how to make charcloth, a necessary piece of kit for your flint
& steel fire kit! Charcloth is quick and easy to make and was a very common material on the 18th century frontier.
However, like many traditional skills, it is rarely practiced today. Watch the process of pyrolysis and see firsthand what
makes charcloth so useful for a variety of fire-starting methods. Meet in the Longhunter camp, located in the pine grove
next to the Fort Watauga Amphitheater.
