Monday: Swim at Watauga Lake Shook Branch Swimming Area

Start your week with a refreshing swim at the Watauga Lake Shook Branch swimming area. The morning is an ideal time to swim an easy 1-mile loop around one of the visible islands from the beach. This spot is great for swimming as it is sheltered from the wind and boats, providing a calm environment. Always swim with a partner for safety, or consider bringing a kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or swim buoy for added security.

Tuesday: White Rock on Buffalo Mountain

Embark on a 5.1 mile hike up the White Rock Loop Trail. This trail is known for its challenging uphill sections, but the effort is worth it once you reach the top. The vista from the summit is spectacular, offering breathtaking views. The Climb isapproximately 1,354 feet.

Wednesday: Ride at Tannery Knobs

Head over to Tannery Knobs for a mountain biking adventure. With recommended trails covering 6-8 miles, it’s a perfect mid-week workout. Tannery Knobs offers trails suitable for various skill levels, ensuring a fun and engaging ride for everyone.

Thursday: Walk on Tweetsie Trail

Enjoy a relaxing walk on the Tweetsie Trail, an excellent activity for chatting with a friend or walking with your dog. Start from the trailhead and walk for as long as you like. There are bathrooms and seating available at the quarry, located 2 miles in. For variety, consider an alternative walk through the tree streets or rent a bike from Local Motion and ride the trail instead.

Friday: Road Ride or Rest Day

Friday is flexible. You can either go for a road ride and track your route with Strava for a fun challenge or take a rest day to recover from the week’s activities. A recommended ride is Dry Creek Road.

Saturday: Hike

Saturday’s activity is another hike. There are plenty of amazing hikes in our area. For detailed trail options, you can visit the Get the Family Outside website to choose a hike that suits your preferences and fitness level which will be linked below.

Each of these activities takes about 90 minutes, except for the swim, and can all be done in the morning, leaving the rest of your day free. It is a great way to get some outdoor exercise. Great for the body and soul!  Enjoy your week of outdoor exercises in Johnson City and make the most of the beautiful natural surroundings!
