Warriors’ Path State Park: Summer in the Park

June 3, 2024 - June 9, 2024

Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you
will enjoy your visit! While you are with us, we invite you
to take advantage of the rich natural beauty and wealth of
opportunities for enjoyable recreation here at the park.

MONDAY, JUNE 3
5:00 PM LEAF PRINTING – See what art you can create using nature’s leaves
as your tool! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, main bath house if it rains.
7:00 PM OLD-TIME WEATHER SAYINGS – Do wooly worms really predict
winter weather? Find out about our region’s weather forecasting
traditions. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it rains.
9:00 PM NIGHT VISION – How does night vision work? Meet at the Main
Bathhouse to “look into” this amazing tool for us, and for our nocturnal
neighbors.
TUESDAY, JUNE 4
10:30 AM BRUNCH HIKE – Join us for a quick hike up the Overlook Trail and be
sure to bring something tasty to enjoy with the view! Meet at the old
pool parking lot and we’ll caravan or carpool to the trail head.

1:30 PM FUNGI FUN – Come join us for some old-fashioned mushroom hunting!
We’ll find out how mushrooms spread their spores and learn how to
create mushroom spore art. Meet at the main bathhouse

3:30 PM SPIDER WALK- The Granddaddy Long Legs is one of the most well-
known creepy crawlers of Tennessee, but how well do we actually know

them? Come take a short hike looking for the multi-legged friends of
Warriors Path State Park and get to know them better.
4:30 PM WEB OF LIFE – FORESTS – It’s all connected! Find out how

everything in the woodland is “tied together.” Then create your own web
of life! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)
6:00 PM ANIMAL HOMES – Meet some small “guest speakers” and discover
more about who is “at home” here at the park. Come to the Open Air
Chapel to find out about their habitats, and ours. In case of rain, meet
at the main bath house.

7:00 PM ANIMAL RELATIONSHIPS – Symbiosis, mutualism, and parasitism,
oh my! Big words for important relationships among our wildlife
neighbors. Join in the interactions at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain
location – Main Bathhouse.)

8:00 PM PREDATOR/PREY – Will you be a carnivore, a herbivore, or an
omnivore? Will you find your lunch, or BECOME lunch? Try this great
game at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)
9:00 PM DRAGONFLIES – These fascinating insects have some amazing life
stories to tell. Come enjoy a slide-illustrated talk about these “bugs”
that zip through the summer skies. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the
pool entrance if it’s raining.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5
10:00 AM MAKE A SUNDIAL – Discover the “sunny” history of sundials and make your
own “solar clock” to keep. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main
Bathhouse.)

11:00 AM WHO’S CALL IS IT ANYWAY? – Let’s “listen in” to some common park
songbirds, then try a game of bird song bingo! Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
(Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

1:30 PM WETLAND WALK – Wetlands are wet, and full of life! Come along for a soggy
hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. We might even
spot a few dragonflies! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.

3:00 PM KID’S TREE WALK – Join park staff for a walk beneath our woody neighbors.
Meet at the Boundless Playground to enjoy the cool shade and cool discoveries.
5:00 PM “WONDERFUL WACKY WET WEDNESDAY” – Let’s enjoy some kid-friendly
water play and learning activities. You might even get to soak the Park Ranger.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel and be prepared to get VERY WET!

7:00 PM PAW PAW PATROL – Come and smell the paw paws! Explore a patch of paw
paws with us and even give them a smell. Let’s go “way down yonder to the Paw
Paw patch!” We’ll discover more about this amazing native fruit tree. Join the
“Paw Paw Patrol” along the Paw Paw Creek trail. Meet at the park’s Mountain
Bike Trail parking area, at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville TN.
9:00 PM FLASHY FIREFLIES – Everyone loves watching and catching nature’s
fireworks! Join us for a short talk on fireflies and then catch (and release) some
fireflies with park staff. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

THURSDAY, JUNE 6
11:30 AM LAKESHORE TRASH BASH – Want to help the wildlife of East Tennessee
and have fun at the same time? Join us for a hike and clean up. If the critters
could talk, the critters would say “THANK YOU!” Meet at the Main Bath House.
12:30 PM- THE 3 R’S – Get involved with keeping our state parks clean and pristine by
reducing, reusing, and recycling! Come see how much you know about the
importance of recycling and then join us for a 3-R’s craft. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel (main bath house if it’s raining).

2:00 PM CAPTURE THE 3 R’s FLAG – Enjoy a reduce, reuse, and recycle themed game

of capture the flag. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

3:00 PM SOIL STUDIES – It’s not just plain old “dirt!” Come “dig into” some new
discoveries about the soil beneath our feet. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
4:00 PM RESOURCE-GO-ROUND – Everything we need, use, or enjoy begins in nature
– even an ordinary pencil! Let’s follow the “life cycle” of a pencil, and gain new
insights into the natural resources we use in our everyday lives. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

5:00 PM POLLINATORS ARE PRECIOUS- Let’s take a walk through pollinator
country! Come help us discover the creatures who help craft our future by
helping plants make seeds. Bring yourself and your keen eyes down to the camp
store to begin a short hike.

6:30 PM TREE COOKIES – The INSIDE of a tree can tell us a lot about the OUTSIDE of
the forest! Come learn to read a tree’s story from its rings! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

THURSDAY, CONTINUED
7:30 PM “POET-TREE” – “I think that I shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree…” But
we will hear some lovely tree poems from YOU this evening! Come practice your
poetry skills by writing a poem about a local tree or maybe even to that tree!
Meet at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)
9:00 PM PLANTS & POLLINATORS – Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on native
wildflowers, and the “busy bugs” who help them thrive. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or (former) pool entrance if it’s raining.

FRIDAY, JUNE 7
9:30 AM RIVERBANK STROLL -This green river valley has seen generations of
travelers. Let’s travel together and search for signs of the wildlife and the people
who came before us. Meet at the main campground bath house.

11:00 AM TENNESSEE TRIVIA – Come test out your skills and see how well you
REALLY know our state. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it
is raining.

12:30 PM SINKING WATERS HIKE – Take a hike to explore the wonders of a wetland
habitat, and all that the water in our park has to offer. Meet at the Sinking
Waters Trail parking lot on Cedar Branch Rd.

3:00 PM STORYTELLING WITH CHALK – Throughout time, people have told stories,
and used pictures to illustrate them. Let’s use our words and our hands to draw
some new Tennessee tales together!

4:30 PM CRITTER COMMUNICATION – Our wildlife neighbors don’t use email or
texting, but they do communicate! “Listen in” as we find out more about how our
native animals use signs, sounds and smells to talk with each other Meet at the
Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

5:30 PM TENNESSEE SYMBOLS BINGO – Do you know our Tennessee State symbols?
Let’s test our State Signs knowledge with a bingo game. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

7:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the
early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it’s raining.

8:00 PM LOTS OF LEGS – Under rocks and logs, in cool damp places we can meet some
of our many-legged neighbors. Let’s go on a short walk to search for some
centipedes and millipedes. Meet at the Open Air Chapel (main bath house if it
rains).

9:00 PM TENNESSEE TALES – Enjoy new insights into Tennessee Folklife as we share
some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or (former)
pool entrance if it rains.

SATURDAY, JUNE 8
9:30 AM WAKE UP WALK – Let’s wake up to the sounds of nature around us. Meet at

the the main bath house for a refreshing walk through the woods.

12:00 PM NATURE JOURNALS – Come learn the basics of nature journaling and create

your own masterpiece. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

9:00 PM CAMPFIRE TALES – A dark night, a crackling fire, and some old tales about
wildlife in East Tennessee. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the main
campground. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

SUNDAY, JUNE 9
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
