Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park

June 17, 2024 - June 23, 2024

Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you will enjoy your visit!
While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the
rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable
recreation here at the park.

MONDAY, JUNE 17
5:00 PM BEAN ART – Nature is full of amazing colors and patterns. Even
ordinary dry beans can help us see the beauty of our earth. Meet at the
main bath house to create natural art from beans!

7:00 PM BIKE RIDE TO THE DUCK ISLAND – Meet at the camp store and
we’ll pedal on down to Duck Island! We’ll have a chance to watch the
ducks, and discover more about their fascinating behavior! Note that
ALL riders MUST wear a bicycle helmet. Children 10 or under must be
accompanied by an adult!

9:00 PM ANIMAL CHARADES – An old favorite with a new twist. See who can
act out the best critter! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.
TUESDAY, JUNE 18
9:30 AM LEAF HIKE – Leaves are shade on a summer day. Leaves are the green
carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Let’s walk under
the leaves, and listen in. Meet at the main bath house to start our hike.
11:00 AM STAINED “GLASS” ANIMALS – Meet at the main bath house to create
your own amazing “stained glass” animals! They look like glass, but they
won’t break like glass, since they’re made of tissue paper! Bring your
creativity, we’ll bring the supplies.

1:00 PM NATURE JOURNALS – Come learn the basics of nature journaling and
create your own masterpiece. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of
rain, meet at the main bath house.

2:00 PM WASPS & HORNETS – Yes, they do sting if you bother them! But they
are really amazing creatures when you get to know them, from a safe
distance… Let’s get a close, stingless look at these common, important,
misunderstood park critters. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath
house if it is raining.

3:30 PM NATURE BOOKMARKS – Is there anything more peaceful than nature
and a nice book? Come make a bookmark using the nature around us for
you to take home! Meet at the Open-Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.

4:30 PM EROSION TABLE – Our friends from Tennessee Forestry will be
visiting us with an amazing demonstration of erosion – and how we can
help protect our soil resources. Meet at the Main Bath House.

NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.

TUESDAY, CONTINUED
5:30 PM PAW PAW PATROL – Come smell the paw paws! Explore a patch of paw paws
with us and even give them a smell. Let’s go “way down yonder to the Paw Paw
Patch!” We’ll discover more about this amazing native fruit tree. Join the “Paw
Paw Patrol” along the Paw Paw Creek trail. Meet at the park’s Mountain Bike
Trail parking area, at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville TN.

6:00 PM NOISY TOYS – How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your
very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.

9:00 PM NIGHT SOUNDS – Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some
seem eerie, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is
whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who
“talk” in the night! (At the former pool entrance if it is raining.) NOTE – there
will be a special NIGHT SOUNDS contest for children after the show.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19
9:30 AM SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE – Explore succession – the changing face of
nature – on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the
woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to
the start of the trail.

10:30 AM FOREST SAFETY & SURVIVAL – Learn what to pack and what to do if you
are lost in the woods. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it
is raining.

11:30 AM BACKPACKING – Have you ever wanted to spend more than just a day in the
back country? Here’s your chance to gain advice on how to begin your overnight
expeditions. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
1:00 PM DREAM CATCHERS – Let’s make these “catchy” little decorations, inspired by

Native American craft. Meet at the main bath house.

2:00 PM BUILD A RIVER – Have you ever wondered why rivers have all those curves?
Or why the rocks and sticks in it are so important? Come build a river with us
and find out all the secrets they hold! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of
rain, meet at the main bath house.

4:00 PM “WONDERFUL WACKY WET WEDNESDAY” – Let’s enjoy some kid-friendly
water play and learning activities. You might even get to soak the Park Ranger.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel and be prepared to get VERY WET!

5:30 PM WHO DIRTIED THE WATER – Was it me? Was it you? Water is an important
resource that we want to protect and keep clean. Come learn about how you can
help our water and the role we all play in keeping it clean. Meet at the main
bath house.

9:00 PM ANIMAL SHADOWS – Come help us bring creatures alive through the art of
shadow puppetry. Shadow puppets are a staple of growing up and provide plenty
of fun! Don’t forget to bring a flashlight and a big imagination! Meet at the main
bath house.
THURSDAY, JUNE 20
9:30 AM “POET-TREE” – “I think that I shall never see, a poem lovely as a tree…” But
we will hear some lovely tree poems from YOU this morning! Come practice your
poetry skills by writing a poem about a local tree or maybe even to that tree!
Meet at the Open Air Chapel. (Rain location – Main Bathhouse.)

THURSDAY, CONTINUED
10:30 AM BUILD A BIRD’S NEST – Birds can do it, but can we? Let’s find out who is a

real “bird brain”. Meet at the main bath house.

11:30 AM TENNESSEE TRIVIA – Come test out your skills and see how well you
REALLY know our state. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it
is raining.

1:00 PM PLANKTON – For us, the lake is a place to go boating or fishing. But for the
micro-world of plankton, it’s a home. Come help us sample this incredible world
of tiny lives floating in lake water. Meet at the main bath house, and we’ll stroll
on down to the shore.

2:00 PM THE 3 R’S – Get involved with keeping our state parks clean and pristine by
reducing, reusing, and recycling! Come see how much you know about the
importance of recycling then join us for a 3-R’s craft. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel. If raining, meet at the main bath house.

3:00 PM TREE FRISBEE – Come have a flying good time, and find out more about park
trees at the same time! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. We have plenty of extra
frisbees!

4:30 PM CAPTURE THE 3 R’S FLAG – Enjoy a reduce, reuse, and recycle themed game

of capture the flag. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

6:00 PM SEED RACES – Wind, water, and animals carry seeds of new trees and plants
all across the land. Our “wind” can help too! Meet at the Open Air Chapel to
show off your “hot air” and plant some new life. Meet at the main bath house if it
rains.

9:00 PM TENNESSEE SEASONS, TENNESSEE WILDLIFE – Enjoy a tour of all four
seasons in the hills of Tennessee. With words and pictures, we will experience
the excitement of year-round discovery. After the slide show, one of our “Wildlife
Ambassadors” will share a lesson on Wildlife Tracking and reading “Critter
Signs.” Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or (former) pool entrance if it is raining.

FRIDAY, JUNE 21
9:00 AM HIKE THE BONEYARD – Come explore a remote corner of Warriors’ Path, full
of geologic discovery. This will be a challenging 2-3 mile hike, so be sure to wear
comfortable clothes, good hiking shoes, and bring some drinking water. Meet at
the park’s Mountain Bike Trail parking area (at the end of Freeman Road,
Blountville TN)

11:00 AM SINKING WATERS HIKE – Take a hike to explore the wonders of a wetland
habitat, and all that the water in our park has to offer. Meet at the Sinking
Waters Trail parking lot on Cedar Branch Rd.

1:00 PM POISON IVY – Don’t let fear of a little itch keep you out of the lovely summer
woods! Learn to be safe around this “sneaky” plant. Meet at the Open Air chapel,
or main bath house if it’s raining.

2:00 PM NOSING FOR NATURE WALK – Nature is full of amazing aromas- some
things smell great, and some smell terrible! Let’s use our noses to “sniff out”
some new discoveries. Meet at the camp store and we will walk to the trail
together.

3:30 PM PAPER PLATE MASKS – What can you be? A wolf? A bear? A kitten? Or
maybe a creature you design yourself! Bring your imagination to the main bath
house.

FRIDAY, CONTINUED
4:30 PM MUD ART – Let’s have a messy, slimy good time! You’ll be amazed at how
creative you can be with nature’s own “finger-paint”. Meet at the Boundless
Playground.

6:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the early
settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath
house if it’s raining.

7:30 PM CHALK CRITTERS – What’s at home here? Decorate the park with sketches of

park wildlife “at home” in their habitats. Meet at the main bath house.

9:00 PM TENNESSEE TALES – Enjoy new insights into Tennessee Folklife as we share
some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or (former) pool
entrance if it rains.
SATURDAY, JUNE 22
9:30 AM CREEK WALK – Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore the
cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the camp
store, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet!

10:30 PM HIKE THE “DARWIN’S REVENGE” TRAIL – It may have a very strange
name, but it is an awesome trail! Come spend a few hours in one of the most
beautiful and wildest parts of the park. Be sure to wear good walking shoes,
comfortable clothes, and bring drinking water. Meet at the park’s Mountain Bike
Trail parking lot (at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville, TN).

1:00 PM 100 INCH HIKE – Especially for small, tired feet! Discover life on the tiny side.
This will also be a great chance to catch a critter for the races! Meet at the main
bath house.

1:30 PM CRITTER RACE FOR FREEDOM – Bring your best creepy crawler to the main
bath house. They’ll all win, because they’ll all get their freedom. No pets or flying
creatures please.

4:00 PM EARTHBALL GAMES – Let’s have a ball – a six foot tall ball!! Meet at the Open
Air Chapel for some lively, cooperative games. If it rains, we’ll have some smaller
ball games at the main bath house.

8:30 PM FIREFLY “JAR” CRAFT- Come make a firefly catching “jar” out of recycled
materials and decorate it for a fun time under the night sky! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel.

9:00 PM CATCH THE FIREFLY – Here’s your chance to discover what it’s like to be a
firefly! Join park staff for a fun modified game of tag and maybe you’ll get the
chance to be one of our favorite flashy friends of the night. Bring a flashlight and
a good sense of fun. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.

SUNDAY, JUNE 23
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
