Long Journey Home 2024: Appalachian Elixir
Plans are underway for a spectacular celebration! This year’s theme is a nod to Clarence “Tom” Ashley’s Medicine Show legacy with a mural that marks a decade of Musical Heritage murals in downtown Mountain City.
The fun begins on Friday evening with Buskin’ on Main Street. This event brings our small town to life with music, friends, and plenty of good eatin’. The Long Journey Home Art Show is always a big hit at Johnson County Center for the Arts, and this year, if all goes according to plan, we will celebrate the grand opening of the Center for the Arts’ new addition, the Gallery on Main.
On Saturday, August 31, the Musical Heritage Homecoming Tour begins with the unveiling of a new mural, Appalachian Elixir on the Mural Mile in Downtown Mountain City. Next up will be live performances at Heritage sites by musicians who still carry on the musical traditions that are unique to Johnson County.
Then on Sunday, the weekend closes with an old-fashioned Sunday Singin’ at Heritage Hall. We hope you’ll make plans to spend some time with us this Labor Day weekend!
