230th Milestone Battle of Flint Creek Walk
**CANCELED DUE TO FORECASTED HIGH WINDS: We always cancel programs, events, and volunteer trail days at park if we have winds over 15 mph during that time frame. Tomorrow forecasted Winds 24-30 mph Winds with 40 mph Gusts.**
Jan 9th will mark the 230th anniversary of John Sevier’s snowy march (all in 2 ft of snow) to an area above the confluence of Rocky Fork and Flint Creeks. Let’s trace part of his historic march to discuss the history of this much debated battle between Sevier’s troops and the Cherokee-Chickamauga warriors encamped there.
We will be going over the timelines before battle, the battle itself, and after the battle for both John Sevier and the Cherokee-Chickamauga encamped there, to get a better picture of this complex time.
Please weather appropriate clothes. It’s usually 10 degrees cooler at park, compared to Tri-Cities and Erwin. Bring a flashlight/headlamp and water if you like.
