Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park Ceremony

To celebrate the official launch of Phase I of the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park, the Military Park’s Executive Board is pleased to announce a special dedication ceremony for its new Welcome Sign. The event will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 18, 2017, at the corner of TN State Highway 394 and Blountville Bypass. Mayor Richard Venable will open the ceremony. Special donors will be honored, along with special guests from local heritage groups. Veterans Memorial Park and Walkway to be unveiled In addition to the new welcome sign, park architect Kenneth P. Soergel will also unveil plans for a brand new Veterans Memorial Park which will be included in Phase I of the overall Military Park. The Veteran’s Memorial Park will honor those who served in any branch of the military. The general public will be given the opportunity to purchase a commemorative brick that will be engraved with the name of a veteran, living or deceased. Forms will be on hand for ordering the commemorative bricks for a donation of $100. The bricks will serve as a permanent place of honor in the walkway and walls of the Veterans Park. The general public is cordially invited to attend this special event. About the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park The Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park Executive Board is partnered with the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism for the purposes of establishing the Battle of Blountville Civil War Military Park. The mission of the Executive Board is to preserve the history of the Battle of Blountville which occurred on September 22, 1863; to enhance heritage tourism in Sullivan County; to offer educational opportunities to learn more about the Battle of Blountville and the events that led up to it; and to showcase the rich heritage of downtown Historic Blountville.
