BLOUNTVILLE, TENN. – The Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism is pleased to announce the Haunted Half Marathon is coming to downtown Historic Blountville on Halloween weekend.
Organized by The Goose Chase, this special event will take place at 8:30 am, Saturday, October 31, 2020. The Haunted Half Marathon will have an approximate 13-mile course charted in and around the Blountville area.
The Haunted Half Marathon features a race that has generally seen between 600-700 runners cross the finish line each year in other local cities. The marathon is lots of fun with costume contests and music and spooky decorations along the course.

Come dressed up in your costumes and join us on this new course, which could end up being a trick or a treat.”
Participants and spectators are encouraged to use social distancing guidelines and to wear a mask (pardon the pun!) to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
For those who wish to participate in the marathon, you may register at www.thegoosechase.org. Area businesses, churches and individuals may contribute promotional items to include in the bags given out to the runners. The Goose Chase is anticipating approximately 600-700 runners that will participate in the Marathon. Contributions may include pens, notepads, water bottles, coupons, candy, coasters, paper. Items will need to be delivered to the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism at 3425 Hwy. 126, Blountville, TN 37617 by Monday, Oct. 26.
The Haunted Half Marathon is organized by The Goose Chase, and is sponsored by the Sullivan County Department of Archives and Tourism and Build A Better Blountville. Donations from the event will be used to enhance the Battle of Blountville Veteran’s Park.

Volunteers

As many of you know, it takes a village of volunteers to help with a race and even more importantly a half marathon. This year, with the new course and town, we would love to have as many volunteers out on the course and helping at the start/finish line as possible. We also give community service or volunteer hours! Click the link below to sign up!

Old Deery Inn

The Inn, it is said, was built in about 1795. William Deery purchased the Inn in 1801 and overtime expanded it to approximate 8000 ft.². The Inn Including a private residence including a grand dining room, country store, and post office, and a wayfarers room (tavern),
Deery Maintain 53 teams of horses in each stage coaches and ran the main line from Abingdon Virginia through Blountville to Elizabethton and Rogersville. It was one of the richest man in Tennessee when he died in 1845.
