Exploring Nature & Form, Ceramic Work Exhibition

The Reece Museum at East Tennessee State University is pleased to present Exploring Nature & Form, a solo exhibition featuring the ceramic work of Lily Kusmik. The exhibit will be on display from August 24 through September 25, 2015.
Suggesting a diversity of natural forms such as sea oats, flowers, shells, waves, and especially the human body, Kusmik creates sculpture in vessel form. Kusmik’s process is not one of “creating shapes”, but rather of “discovering shapes.” Traditional methods (such as wheel, coils, slabs, and molds) did not give the artist the direct flow that was necessary for her expression. Only through the direct contact of hands with the porcelain does she achieve the connection she is after.
A free reception will be held at the Reece Museum on September 10, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
