The McKinney Center announces Halloween Haunts and Happenings Art Juried Exhibition

Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center has curated its inaugural Halloween Haunts and Happenings, an exhibition highlighting artwork by twenty-five regional artists. Brought together by the McKinney Center staff, this group of artists from across the Tri-Cities span a range of practices including wood work, sculpture, painting, photography and digital media. Their interpretive expressions reflect the mood of the season.

The reception for the exhibition will be held on Friday, October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. The artists will be available at the reception to answer questions from guests. The reception will include light refreshments.

Artists in the exhibition include Jean G’Fellers, Meaghan Evans, Denise Dijoseph, Mickey Trivett, Joan Elliott, Leanne Trivett, Meghan Ortiz, Christy Ward, Kara Bledsoe, Michael Hilliard, Katie Walser, Kendal Oster, Robin Castania, Jess Parks, Susan Everitt, Larry Thacker, Bryan Duddlers, Stephen Simmerman, Matthew Hardman, Skye McFarland, Kayla Byrd, Paula Spangler, Marius Pana, Alex Glymp and Logan Blevins.

The presentation will be installed in the main hallway and a classroom of the McKinney Center. The exhibition also includes artifacts from the Heritage Alliance’s permanent artifact collection and archives, such as authentic death photos, death masks and funeral prints.

The exhibition is one highlight of Jonesborough’s range of Halloween activities including the Halloween StoryTown Radio Show at the McKinney Center on Monday, October 23 at 7 p.m., the downtown Halloween Haunts and Happenings trick-or-treating event on Friday, October 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Brews and Boos on Saturday, October 28. The McKinney Center is excited to include this dark art exhibition with curiosities, the macabre and the grotesque.

Halloween Haunts and Happenings Exhibition will be on view at the McKinney Center from Friday, October 13, 2023 through November 3, 2023.
