Jonesborough: Chuckey Depot Museum Exhibit

February 7, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Chuckey Depot Museum at Jonesborough has just announced the opening of a new exhibit, Working on the Railroad, which focuses on various maintenance tools utilized by the railroad and other maintenance-related artifacts related to maintenance. The Town of Jonesborough will host the exhibit opening at the museum on Thursday February 7 at 6:00 p.m. The exhibit will run through July 2019.

The exhibit explores the means of maintenance along the railroad.  The exhibit will help museum visitors gain an appreciation for a wide variety of tools that were effectively used by the railroad for decades prior to modern tools.  Two specific pieces that visitors will find most intriguing include a Model Tie Replacement Machine which was a model built locally for modern-day machinery that replaces railroad ties, and a refurbished Speeder Car that was used by maintenance workers along the railroad.

 The Chuckey Depot Museum’s regular hours are Monday, Thursday through Friday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Chuckey Depot’s original home was just down the road in Chuckey, TN and now sits within WC Rowe Park in Jonesborough. In an effort to preserve the building, it was dismantled and re-erected in Jonesborough, where it opened as a museum in October 2017.

Chuckey Depot Museum is located at 110 S 2nd Ave. For more information call 423.791.3869. This project is brought to you by the Town of Jonesborough, Heritage Alliance of NE TN and SW VA and Watauga Valley Railroad Historical Society.
