Jonesborough Yarn Exchange Highlights Women’s History Month

Monday, March 26

March Yarn Exchange Radio Show on Monday, March 26, highlights Women’s History Month with stories about the incredible women who have forged this community’s identity from the very beginnings of the country. Hear about the women who played a role in the politics of the country, from the times before women had the vote, through influences like that of First Lady Eliza Johnson of Greeneville, Tennessee. Discover the roots of the State of Franklin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the important work that group does to preserve history in the region. Hear about Mary, and how her courage and determination saw her baby boy through Leukemia, and took care of a daughter with a brain injury. Listen to the story of two determined women, who taught at Booker T. Washington school for 25 years, from 1940 through 1965, when integration came, and laugh out loud to their very different teaching styles, and how they changed through the years.

Joining the cast this month as musical guest will be opera singer Tatum Spears, who studied at the exclusive Cincinnati Conservatory.

Also joining the cast again this month will be poet Langley Shazor, debuting some new works on the show.

The show performs live at the International Storytelling Center on Monday, March 26 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5, and available by calling the Historic Visitor Center at 423-753-1010 or online an Jonesborough.com/tickets. Seating is limited, and purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.

The Yarn Exchange radio show is sponsored in part by the Tennessee Arts Commission and Ballad Health, and is part of Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts.
