Kentucky and Tennessee Weightlifting State Organization Championships
October 8 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
EJOHNSON CITY, TN – Visit Johnson City is proud to sponsor the inaugural Tennessee and Kentucky Weightlifting State Organization (WSO) Championships. This event will be held on Saturday, October 8th from 8am to 6pm at the ETSU Ballad Health Athletic Center and includes five different sessions for various lifters. The WSO Championships look to create a safe, competitive environment for some of the strongest men and women in the region. An estimated 60 competitors and 250 out of town attendees will be present at this one-day event.
This year’s Championships is hosted by Meg Stone, Director of the Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education at ETSU and organizer of the ETSU Stoneage Weightlifting Club. Visit Johnson City hopes to cement this regionally sanctioned event as a draw to ETSU and Johnson City’s amenities from locals and visitors alike. Weightlifting is an underrecognized discipline that is gaining much ground from competitors and fans of all ages. This event will feature the best weightlifters within the states of Tennessee and Kentucky with a chance to establish the regional records in each of their weight classes. A favorable outcome for this meet would be to promote the weightlifting community, specifically highlighting ETSU’s very own student athletes that will be in attendance.
“Visit Johnson City is proud to lend their resources and expertise to an olympic weightlifting event that tests one’s ability to successfully lift a barbell from the ground to overhead holding as much weight as possible. Nothing feels more empowering than being able to participate as a competitor or engage as a spectator in the greatest test of strength and resilience on Earth,” said James Mauney, Sports Sales Manager for Visit Johnson City.
