Martha Redbone / The Garden of Love: Songs of William Blake

November 30, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, 7:30 p.m. – Martha Street Culp Auditorium
Martha Redbone / The Garden of Love: Songs of William Blake
In The Garden of Love – a collection of William Blake poems set to the music by singer-songwriter and American roots singer Martha Redbone and produced in album form by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s John McEuen – Redbone fuses the mystical, humanistic words of the 18th-century English poet with the melodies, drones and rhythms of the Appalachian string-band music. “The Garden of Love poignantly reveals a musician at the top of her game, vocally, intellectually, and spiritually,” says Tim Johnson of the National Museum of the American Indian. “One not only hears the voice of the Bard … but also the very origins of American music arising from the blend of American Indian, African American and English folk music traditions.” The ETSU Old Time Ramblers will open the concert. Tickets for the event are $20/15/5 and can be purchased online at www.etsu.edu/martin or by calling Kristi Smith at 423-439-8587.
