Miss Brown’s End of the Year Program and Student Art Exhibition
May 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Thursday, May 9 from 6-7PM, the McKinney Center will honor a tradition that is over seven decades old with their annual “Miss Brown’s End of the Year Program and Student Art Exhibition.”
Highlighting student art work and talent from the spring semester at the McKinney Center, the event is named after Miss Ethel Brown, a teacher at Booker T. Washington School, who held an annual program to celebrate what the students had learned. This program, much like the McKinney Center’s program of today, included art work, dance, music, and more, and is another way the McKinney Center is working to honor its historic past.
This event which is free and open to the public, will feature student art work, both youth and adult, in many different mediums including water colors, drawings, ceramics, pottery, sculptures, mosaics, fused glass, and more. At 6:30, audiences are invited to the auditorium for a series of short performances, which will feature a hip-hop demonstration and selections from guitar students.
This showcase of talent highlights the many art programs held at the McKinney Center. Registration for the summer art camps and adult workshops are taking place now, at the center, and online at mckinneycenter.com
