River Song

Mark Twain’s All-American adventure based on episodes from his own boyhood comes vividly to life on stage in an all-new adaptation of his celebrated novel Tom Sawyer. All of the well-loved scenes from the classic story are here, including white-washing the fence, the terror in the graveyard, the “free-bootin’” on Jackson Island, all the elements that have stirred the imagination of boys (and girls) for almost 140 years. Some of the best-loved characters in literature are present- the mischievous Tom Sawyer, his best pal Huckleberry Finn, pretty Becky Thatcher and many more!
The script is newly adapted from the novel by local director and dramatist Gerald Maloy. The songs were written for the 1973 Reader’s Digest film production by the Academy Award winning team of Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman (Mary Poppins) who were again Academy-nominated in 1974 for the song score of Tom Sawyer. In an unprecedented, generous, and gracious move, Richard M. Sherman has granted Mr. Maloy permission to use these songs in this special stage adaptation.
River Song catches the spirit of 1830’s Hannibal, Missouri, with songs including the poignant title tune “River Song,” “Free-Bootin’,” and the toe-tapping “Gratification.”
