Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of our Tennessee State Natural Areas program with a short walk through the rich green habitats of Watauga River Bluffs State Natural Area. Just a few miles south of Johnson City TN, this little gem of a natural area offers fine young forests full of spring wildflowers, and a chance to get “up close and personal” with the beautiful Watauga River. It’s also home to our state’s largest population of the rare and beautiful Wild Pink (Silene caroliniana).
This will be a short walk (between one and two miles, depending on how high the river is today), but does cover some slippery, wet, and uneven ground. Be sure to wear good walking footwear. And bring along some raingear, just in case – weather can change quickly here in the East Tennessee hills!
We will meet at the Warriors’ Path State Park pool parking lot, departing promptly at 9 AM in a caravan to the hiking trail parking lot.
