Stories from the Classroom: Teachers’ Edition

StoryTown Radio Show continues to celebrate 15 years on the air with “Stories from the Classroom: Teachers’ Edition” on Monday, August 24 at 7 p.m. at the McKinney Center.
StoryTown performs in the format of a live, old-time radio show complete with sound effects, musical underscoring, live skits, and a great musical guest. This month’s show is all about the highs and lows, joys and tribulations of being a classroom teacher. We’ll have stories from public, private, and homeschool educators. Joining the cast this month is GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah. Amythyst performed on the Radio Show when we were just starting out, and so was she. Her latest album Still + Bright was released in 2024. StoryTown is excited to welcome her back to the Radio Show as a part of our 15th anniversary celebration.

The Radio Show is recorded for broadcast on local NPR station WETS 89.5 out of Johnson City, which can be heard the last Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m. StoryTown is sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, Gary and Sandee Degner, Terry and Sandy Countermine, Herman and Beverly Jenkins, Doug and Denise Gross, Ed and Frankie Wolff, the Wild Women of Jonesborough, and Wolfe Development.

About the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington:
The mission of the McKinney Center at Booker T. Washington is to provide a comprehensive program through Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts, which teaches various art skills to all participants through a quality program of instruction open to all segments of Jonesborough’s population. In addition, a primary mission of the Center is to enhance minority participation in the planning and implementation in all activities in Jonesborough while specifically celebrating the contribution of the African-American community in the growth and development of the Town. The activities of the McKinney Center are designed to enhance the quality of life of all Jonesborough residents.
