The Jackson Theatre: 80 Years
The Jackson Theatre invites the community to celebrate 80 years since the theatre’s original grand opening in 1945. From August 26-31, guests can enjoy a special slate of classic films from the 1940s, all part of the theatre’s 80th Anniversary Week.
The weeklong celebration culminates with the return of Jackpot Night, a Jackson Theatre tradition from the 1940s and ’50s. All attendees of the 3 p.m. screening of The Kansan on Sunday, August 31, will receive a free raffle ticket for the chance to win prizes donated by local Jonesborough merchants. The Kansan originally played at The Jackson on August 31, 1945, exactly 80 years to the day. A birthday reception with cake, refreshments, and a display of Historic newspaper clippings and photos will follow the raffle.
Guests can also take part in a 1 p.m. theatre tour and view a short documentary about The Jackson Theatre’s history at 1:30 p.m. before the screening of The Kansan.
As part of the theatre’s ongoing Pay What You Can initiative, all Anniversary Week films will be available for as little as $1.
