Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park

To keep you and your family healthy and safe, we’re limiting number of people participating in
activities. Please practice proper social distancing.
TUESDAY, JULY 21
9:30 AM HIKE FAWN LOOP – Will the deer families be “at home” this morning?
Let’s explore this fine deer habitat, full of nature discovery. Be sure to wear
good hiking shoes, and meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking area.

1:30 PM DREAM CATCHERS – Let’s make these “catchy” little decorations,
inspired by Native American craft. Meet at the main bath house.
3:00 PM SQUIRREL SEARCH – The more we watch these grey furry neighbors,
the more we can discover about their fascinating lives. Meet at the Open
Air Chapel for some critter behavior studies.
5:00 PM TREE TOOLS – How big is that tree? How old is it? What wildlife could be
hiding in it? Come see and try out some of the tools that foresters use to
study and protect our native trees. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it is raining.
9:00 PM FOREST TREES – Take a “hike” from the comfort of your seat. Enjoy a
“tour” of our nearby forest habitats using words and pictures. After the
slide show, we’ll share a demonstration of how to identify our local trees.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or pool entrance if it is raining.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 22
9:00 AM NATIVE TREES HIKE – Come hike under our native trees, and get to
know them a bit better. Meet at the pool parking lot.

10:30 AM FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND – Come walk along a little beach to read
stories in the sand. It’s a perfect place for animal tracks! Meet at the main
bath house for a short walk
2:00 PM NATURE CRAFTS – You can make a friend! Create your own creatures
using natural materials. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath
house if it is raining.
3:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from
the early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel,
or main bath house if it’s raining.

WEDNESDAY, CONTINUED
4:00 PM CREEK WALK – Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore
the cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll caravan. Be prepared to get wet! (Please preregister).
7:30 PM SUNSET HIKE TO THE RIDGETOP – Enjoy some fine high-elevation views!
Watch the sun go down across the summer forests and fields. Bring a flashlight,
wear good hiking footwear, and meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking
lot.(Please preregister for this hike).
THURSDAY, JULY 23
9:30 AM HIKE LAKE HOLLOW – Enjoy a leisurely hike through the Lake Hollow Trail,
and explore some of the unique habitats our animal neighbors call home. Meet
at the camp store.
11:00 AM TURTLE TALK – Meet some real, live “shelled friends” and find out more about
their amazing lives. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.
3:00 PM FOREST DISCOVERY HIKE – Be a forest detective! Come explore the web of
connections along the forest trail. Meet at the main bath house. (Please
preregister for this hike).
5:00 PM MEET THE OWL – Meet a REAL LIVE feathered hunter, and learn his
fascinating life story. One of our “Wildlife Ambassadors” will be at the Open Air
Chapel to give you a chance to MEET THE OWL. (In case of rain, meet at the
main bath house.)
9:00 PM NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS – It’s a whole different world out there
at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the excitement of a
night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim flashlight and drive to the
camp store. We’ll caravan out to the start of the hike. (Please preregister for
this hike).
FRIDAY, JULY 24
9:00 AM HIKE THE “WAHOO” TRAIL – Enjoy about 4 miles of strenuous hiking along
an awesome trail! Come spend several hours in a beautiful and wild part of the
park. Be sure to wear good walking shoes, comfortable clothes, and bring some
drinking water. Meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking area. (Please
preregister for this hike).
10:30 AM LEAF HIKE – Leaves are shade on a hot summer day. Leaves are the green
carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Let’s walk under the
leaves, and listen in. Meet at the main bath house to start a shore hike. (Please
preregister for this hike).
2:00 PM RIVERBANK STROLL -This green river valley has seen generations of
travelers. This afternoon, we’ll travel together, and search for signs of the
wildlife and the people who came before us. Meet at the main bath house.
4:00 PM NATURE TRAVELERS – How do trees, plants and animals “hitch a ride” to
new places? Let’s go along for the ride! Meet at the main bath house.
5:30 PM NATURE GAMES – Don’t miss the natural fun – for the young or the young-at-
heart! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for some lively games about our natural
world. If it’s raining, meet at the main bath house.
9:00 PM DRAGONFLIES – These fascinating insects have some amazing life stories to
tell. Come enjoy a slide-illustrated talk about these “bugs” that zip through the
summer skies. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the pool entrance if it’s raining.
SATURDAY, JULY 25
9:30 AM WETLAND WALK – Wetlands are wet, and full of life! Come along for a soggy
hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. We might even
spot a few dragonflies! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll caravan. (Please
preregister for this hike).
11:00 AM NOSING FOR NATURE – Nature is full of amazing aromas – some things smell
great, and some smell terrible! Let’s use our noses to “sniff out” some new
discoveries. Meet at the Main Bath House.
2:00 PM SPOTLIGHT STROLL – Let’s shine our light on some bright natural
discoveries. Meet at the camp store to begin a short, sunlit walk.
4:00 PM FIELD SWEEP – This green world at our feet is teeming with amazing life.
Help us “sweep up” some field discoveries. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
6:30 PM PEOPLE TRACKS – Wildlife leave tracks and signs, and so do we. But we can
choose what kind of signs we leave! Let’s go on a short adventure to find some
helpful and harmful people tracks. We’ll see what great tracks we can leave.
Meet at the camp store.
8:30 PM CAMPFIRE – What a great combination: A dark night, a bright fire, and some
traditional riddles. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the main
campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool entrance.
SUNDAY, JULY 26
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
