Warrior’s Path State Park: Summer in the Park

Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park!
We hope you will enjoy your visit!
While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the
rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable
recreation here at the park.

TUESDAY, JUNE 26
1:00 PM
DREAM CATCHERS –
Let’s make these “catchy” little decorations,
inspired by Native American craft. Meet at the main bath house.
3:00 PM
LICHENS –
Come walk to discover some of our park’s most amazing
plants! You’ll really “take a liking” to them! Meet at the main bath house.
5:00 PM
EVENING STROLL
– Let’s wake up our senses to evening in the forest.
Meet at the main bath house for a short, refreshing hike.
7:00 PM
MEET THE OWL
– Meet a real live feathered hunter. Come to the Open
Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting for you. If it is raining, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM
NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS –
It’s a whole different world out
there at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the
excitement of a night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim
flashlight and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool to the trail.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27
8:30 AM
BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS
– Come wake up to our feathered
neighbors. Meet at the main bath house to begin a stroll through bird
country! (The first 12 people to come get free doughnut & juice!)
11:00 AM
WONDERFUL WILDFLOWERS WALK –
Early summer is a perfect
time for blooming things! Come for a hike among the beautiful
wildflowers of the park. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.
2:00 PM
CRITTER PATHS
– Be a critter detective! Find out what’s been
wandering through the campground habitats. Meet at the camp store.
4:00 PM
TAG
– You’re it! You’re the one we need to make all these great tag
games work. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it
is raining, meet at the main bath house.
5:30 PM
BLIND WALK
– Let’s leave our eyes behind and “see” what our ears and
hands can tell us. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
campground for a different “look” at the park.
7:00 PM
ULTIMATE FRISBEE
– Join us for an extreme game…some might say,
the “ultimate” hobby. Meet at the Boundless Playground entrance and
we’ll head up to the fields together.
9:00 PM
BAT & MOTH –
Use your ears and your “bug hunting” skills! See if you
could survive a night out in the woods and fields —
if
you were a flying
bug! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
THURSDAY, JUNE 28
9:30 AM
SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE –
Explore succession – the changing face of
nature – on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the
woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to
the start of the trail.
11:00 AM
WALKING UNPLUGGED –
Are we still plugged-in when we’re walking? This
walk will show you how to truly unplug! Meet at the camp store.
2:00 PM
JUNIOR RANGERS: WEB OF LIFE
– Every living thing is part of the web!
Help us get really “tied up” in our work as we build our own living web. You’ll
see natural places like you’ve never seen them before! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
4:30 PM
NATURE “JEOPARDY” –
Let’s try out this natural version of the famous game
show. Test your skills and see how much you REALLY know about nature. Meet
at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
7:00 PM
NOISY TOYS –
How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your
very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM
NIGHT SOUNDS
– Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some
seem eerie, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is
whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who
“talk” in the night! (At the pool entrance if it is raining.)
FRIDAY, JUNE 29
9:00 AM
MORNING CRITTERS
– We may think it’s too early to be out and about, but
park critters see things differently! Come and see which animals are up and
going while we are still eager to sleep. Meet at the main bath house.
11:00 AM
NATURE POETRY –
Come enjoy “listening in” to some inspiring words about
nature. Then amaze yourself by writing your own poem about the great
outdoors. Bring your favorite poem if you’d like, and meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
2:00 PM
WATER BALLOON VOLLEYBALL
– What a great way to cool off! Enjoy an
exciting liquid game!! Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the campground.
(meet rain or shine – we’ll be wet anyway!)
5:00 PM
RIVERBANK STROLL
-This green river valley has seen generations of
travelers. This morning, we’ll travel together, and search for signs of the wildlife
and the people who came before us. Meet at the main campground bath house.
7:00 PM
OLD TIMEY GAMES
– Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the
early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it’s raining.
9:00 PM
TENNESSEE TALES
– Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on Tennessee Folklife, and
then share some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or
pool entrance if it rains.
SATURDAY, JUNE 30
9:30 AM
DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE
-Come hike to the high places, and get some new
views of our park land. Drive to the camp store and we’ll carpool to the start of
an invigorating hike.
11:30 PM
100 INCH HIKE
– Especially for small, tired feet! Discover life on the tiny side.
This will also be a great chance to catch a critter for the races! Meet at the main
bath house.
12 NOON
CRITTER RACE FOR FREEDOM –
Bring your best creepy crawler to the
main bath house. They’ll all win, because they’ll all get their freedom. No pets or
flying creatures please.
2:00 PM
SEED RACES
– Wind, water, and animals carry seeds of new trees and plants
all across the land. Our “wind” can help too! Meet at the Open Air Chapel to
show off your “hot air” and plant some new life. Meet at the main bath house if it
rains.
3:00 PM
CREEK WALK
– Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore
the cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet!
5:00 PM
NATURE JOURNAL
– Come create your own little “nature diary.” Your home-
made book will be a perfect way to remember all your nature fun in the park!
Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.
7:00 PM
SCENIC WALK –
We can’t take the park home with us, but we can preserve
some special scenes with our cameras. Come “snap” some memories of YOUR
state park. Meet at the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of the trail.
9:00 PM
NIGHT VISION –
Come find out who has great night vision and we’ll even test
out our own. Meet at the Open Air Chapel (or if pool entrance if it’s raining)
SUNDAY, JULY 1
9:00 AM
WORSHIP SERVICE
– Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
