Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park
Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you will enjoy your visit!
While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the rich natural beauty
and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable recreation here at the park.

MONDAY, JUNE 10
3:00 PM LEAVE NO TRACE – Help keep our wilderness wild! Join us for a
“hands-on” discussion of outdoor ethics and a wilderness matching game.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
7:00 PM EVENING STROLL – Let’s wake up our senses to evening in the forest.
Meet at the main bath house for a short, refreshing hike.
9:00 PM ANIMAL LORE CAMPFIRE- Discover more about our East
Tennessee’s rich heritage of animal legends! Share some wildlife tales at
the campfire circle, east end of the main campground. In case of rain,
meet at the (former) pool building front porch.
TUESDAY, JUNE 11
9:30 AM HIKE THE “DARWIN’S REVENGE” TRAIL – It has a strange name,
but it’s an awesome trail! Come spend a few hours in one of the most
beautiful and wildest parts of the park. Wear good walking shoes,
comfortable clothes, and bring drinking water. Meet at the park’s
Mountain Bike Trail parking lot (Freeman Road, Blountville, TN).
11:00 AM SCAVENGER HUNT – You can be a park detective!! Use the clues to
find out more about Warriors’ Path. You might win a prize, and you’ll
surely win lots of exciting discoveries. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to
begin the hunt. (At the main bath house if it’s raining)
1:30 PM BIRD CALL BINGO – Which bird song is that? Let’s “listen in” to some
common Tennessee bird calls, then test our knowledge through a classic
game of bingo. You might even get a prize! Meet at the main bathhouse.
2:30 PM BUILD A BUTTERFLY – Create your very own paper butterfly, and
discover more about these winged wonders! Meet at the main bath house.
3:30 PM BRAINY BIRDS – How smart are you and I compared to a common park
bird? Come find out just how smart crows are and how they are able to
survive so well. Meet at the main bath house
5:00 PM MAGNIFYING GLASS STROLL – Use your eyes and some handy little
magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the
main bath house to begin a short discovery walk.
7:00 PM WATER’S EDGE WALK – Enjoy an evening walk on the Lakeshore
Trail. We’ll discover more about the animals and plants who live each
day “on the edge!” Meet at the main bath house.
9:00 PM NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS – It’s a different world out there
at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the excitement
of a night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim flashlight and
drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool out to the park back country.
NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12
9:30 AM WAKE UP WALK – Let’s wake up our senses to morning in the forest. Meet at
the main bath house for a refreshing morning walk.
11:00 AM STORY HOUR – THE GIVING TREE – Come relax under a big shade tree and
enjoy this classic children’s book. Meet at the Open Air Chapel or main bath
house if its raining.
1:00 PM ANIMAL ARCHITECTS – Animals can build their homes in a variety of ways.
For some animals, making a home is a lot of work! Come learn about one of
Tennessee’s most notorious architects, the beaver, and how they make a nice
home for themselves and others! Meet at the main bath house.
2:00 PM ANIMAL GROUPS BINGO – Discover new insights into our unique and
different animal groups. Afterwards, you’ll use your newfound knowledge to win
a game of animal groups bingo. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain,
meet at the main bath house.
3:00 PM NATURE PICTURE FRAMES – Come get ready to “frame” your favorite scene
from the park! Meet at the main bath house to make your own picture frame.
4:00 PM SKULLS – NATURE’S TOOL BOX – Every animal carries along all the tools it
needs for survival! Come investigate some natural “tool boxes,” and find out
more about each animal’s job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.
6:00 PM KNOT TYING – Knot tying is an important skill in many outdoor activities.
Come learn some basic knots at the Open Air Chapel (main bath house if it’s
raining.)
8:00 PM CORN HUSK DOLLS CIRCLE – Come listen in to a traditional Native
American tale on the origins of the corn husk doll. Then learn how to make one
for yourself! Meet at the Open Air Chapel (at the main bath house if it’s raining).
THURSDAY, JUNE 13
9:00 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places, and get some new
views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of
an invigorating hike.
10:30 AM LEAF ID BOOK – Leaves are shade on a hot summer day. Leaves are the green
carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Discover more about the
stories of our green neighbors, then use your knowledge to create your own leaf
booklet. Meet at the Open Air Chapel (main bath house if it’s raining.)
11:30 AM OLD SCHOOL PAINTING – Let’s take a step into the past and create a work
of art using the nature around us for tools. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case
of rain, meet at the main bath house.
1:00 PM TISSUE PAPER FLOWERS – Join us for this classic flower-themed craft while
learning some more about native wildflowers! Meet at the main bath house.
2:00 PM LIFE UNDER LOGS – Come dig in to the world of trees and the little critters
that use them! We will go on a hike along the Lakeshore Trail ( ? mile) hunting
for the little critters that love to hide under logs and figure out why they’re so
important to our park. Meet at the main bath house.
3:00 PM GRAND-DADDY WHO? – Granddaddy Long Legs may be creepy crawlers, but
they are also an important part of the forest community. Come take a short
WALK to search for our little grand-daddies, and to discover more about these
misunderstood leggy neighbors. Meet at the camp store.
THURSDAY, CONTINUED
4:00 PM STORY HOUR: THE LORAX – Come relax under a big shade tree during the
heat of the day to enjoy a classic conservation story. Meet at the Boundless
Playground.
6:00 PM TREE TOOLS – How big is that tree? How old is it? What wildlife could be
hiding in it? Come see and try out some of the tools that foresters use to study
and protect our native trees. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if
it is raining.
9:00 PM FOREST TREES – Take a “hike” from the comfort of your seat. Enjoy a “tour”
of our nearby forest habitats using words and pictures. After the slide show,
we’ll share a demonstration of how to identify our local trees. Meet at the Open
Air Chapel, or (former) pool entrance if it is raining.
FRIDAY, JUNE 14
9:00 AM RIDGETOP HIKE – Enjoy some fine high views of the summer forests and
fields under the bright sunny skies. This is a fairly short, but very steep hike. So
wear good hiking footwear, bring some water, and meet at the park’s Mountain
Bike Trail parking lot (at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville TN).
11:30 AM FIELD SWEEP – This green world at our feet is teeming with amazing life.
Help us “sweep up” some field discoveries. Meet at the campfire circle, east end
of the main campground.
1:00 PM EATING SEASONALLY – Did you eat any seasonal foods for lunch? What does
it means to eat seasonally and why it is better for the environment? If you care
about healthy eating and a healthy world, join us at the Open Air Chapel, or
main bath house if it is raining.
2:00 PM MEET THE SNAKES – They’re not the fearsome creatures you’ve been led to
believe! Come out and learn the facts about these interesting and helpful
animals. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath
house.
3:00 PM NATURE ART – You’ll be amazed at how creative you can be with nature’s own
“crayons”. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create your own natural masterpiece.
If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.
4:30 PM DIY PINECONE BIRD FEEDER – Want to help your bird neighbors get
breakfast? Come build a peanut butter and pinecone bird feeder with park staff.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
6:00 PM TENNESSEE BIRD TRIVIA – Over four hundred types of birds call our state
home! How well do you know the birds that live right beside you? Come find out
– and come ready to answer some questions! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In
case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
7:00 PM CANDLE MAKING – Imagine life before electricity. People needed candles to
see in their homes at night. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, and learn how to
make them! (At the main bath house if it rains.)
9:00 PM NIGHT HIKE – Enjoy night discoveries along the Connector Trail. Use ALL
your senses to explore the dark side of the day! Bring a not-too-bright flashlight,
and meet at the Camp Store. We will walk down to the trailhead together.
SATURDAY, JUNE 15
SPECIAL EVENT TODAY – DRAGONFLY DAY

9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the (former)
pool entrance.
SUNDAY, JUNE 16
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
