Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park

June 30 - July 6

Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you will enjoy

your visit! While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage

of the rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for

enjoyable recreation here at the park.

7:30 PM “INVADERS” AMONG US – Discover more about the dangers of invasive

plant and animal species by playing a nature game about these invaders. Meet

at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.

RIDDLING CAMPFIRE – What a great combination: A dark night, a bright

fire, and some traditional riddles. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the

main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the main

bath house.

TUESDAY, JULY 1

9:00 AM RIPARIAN HIKE – “Riparian” means “along the creek bank.” It also means an

extra-rich wildlife habitat! Come along for an “extra- cool” hike near Fall Creek.

Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.

BIRD CALL BINGO – Which bird song is that? Let’s “listen in” to some

common Tennessee bird calls, then test our knowledge through a classic game

of bingo. You might even get a prize! Meet at the main bathhouse.

TREES OF LAKE HOLLOW – Take a walk among our woody friends. Trees

have a lot to teach us about our land and its history. Meet at the main bath

house for a woody, leafy hike. .

STREAM CLEAN – Come out and let’s help our creek critter neighbors enjoy a

cleaner habitat! Also enjoy a nice and refreshing “dip” in the creek! Be prepared

to get wet. Meet at the Boundless Playground entrance.

MUD ART – Let’s have a messy, slimy good time! You’ll be amazed at how

creative you can be with nature’s own “finger-paint”. Meet at the Boundless

Playground.

ANIMAL HOMES – Meet some small live “guest speakers” and discover more

about who is “at home” here at the park. Come to the Open Air Chapel to find

out about their habitats, and ours. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

PARK PUZZLES – Create your own State Park puzzle! Bring your creativity

to the Open Air Chapel. When we’re done “puzzling,” we’ll try to solve each

other’s puzzles too! In case of rain, meet at the main bath house

CRITTER PATHS – Be a critter detective! Find out what’s been wandering

through the campground habitats. Meet at the camp store.

CORN HUSK DOLLS – Come listen in to a traditional Native American tale

on the origins of the corn husk doll. Then learn how to make one for yourself!

Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

LAMP-LIT NIGHT HIKE – Take a “de-light-full” hike through the creekside

forest. We’ll light up the trail with old-timey kerosene lanterns, and discover a

“new world” of life after dark. We’ll supply the lanterns, but children should

bring flashlights instead for safety. Meet at the park’s Mountain Bike parking

area (at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville TN).

9:30 AM CREEK WALK – Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore

the cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the

camp store, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet!

11:30 AM PLANKTON – For us, the lake is a place to go boating or fishing. But for the

micro-world of plankton, it’s a home. Come help us sample this incredible world

of tiny lives floating in lake water. Meet at the main bath house, and we’ll stroll

on down to the shore.

1:00 PM NATURE ART – With a few artistic tools, and a bit of drawing skill, you can

create a beautiful picture of what our park was, is, and will be. Meet at the Open

Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

2:30 PM DREAM CATCHERS – Let’s make these “catchy” little decorations, inspired by

Native American craft. Meet at the main bath house.

4:00 PM “WONDERFUL WACKY WET WEDNESDAY” – Let’s enjoy some kid-friendly

water play and learning activities. You might even get to soak the Park Ranger.

Meet at the Open Air Chapel and be prepared to get VERY WET!

5:30 PM ANIMAL CHARADES – Explore your wild side and show off your acting skills

with a fun game of animal charades! See if you can walk, talk, and squawk like

the animals here in the park. Meet at the Open Air Chapel or the main bath

house if it’s raining.

6:30 PM HAWKS VS SQUIRRELS – For us, it’s just a game. But it’s life and death for

the creatures in nature’s balance! Experience the struggle for life between

squirrels and hawks. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is

raining.

7:30 PM READING THE ROCKS – Come hike along the Lake learn how to read the

stories right beneath your feet that have been set in stone! Meet at the main

campground boat ramp. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

9:00 PM STATE SYMBOLS – Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on our Tennessee State

Symbols, and discover which symbols you can find here at our park! Meet at the

Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

THURSDAY, JULY 3

9:00 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE -Come hike to the high places, and get some new

views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of

an invigorating hike. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking footwear, bring water, and

be prepared for some steep climbs and rocky trail.

10:30 PM NATURE BOOKMARKS – These hot summer afternoons are perfect for sitting

underneath a tree with a good book. Hold your place in your favorite book with

your brand new, hand-crafted book mark! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case

of rain, meet at the main bath house.

12 NOON NATURE GAMES – Don’t miss the natural fun – for the young or the young-at-

heart! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for some lively games about our natural

world. If it’s raining, meet at the main bath house.

1:00 PM OVERLOOK HIKE – Take a hike to the Overlook and look at our world from a

different perspective. Don’t forget your camera! Meet at the Overlook Trail

parking lot – just past the Boundless Playground and Soccer Fields.THURSDAY, CONTINUED:

2:00 PM RAFT CRAFT – Years ago, men needed to know how to make rafts of huge logs,

to travel the river and to sell timber. Today we can make little rafts just for fun,

and to remember those early days. Afterwards, we will go down to the shore and

try out our new rafts! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the

main bath house.

3:00 PM TENNESSEE TRIVIA – Think you know your Tennessee History? Come to the

Open Air Chapel to test your knowledge and maybe discover something new

about this great state. Meet at the main bathhouse in case of rain.

4:00 PM ANIMAL TRACK DRAWING – Learn to “track down” local wildlife. Use your

creative skills at the same time! Your unique design is only a “footstep” away.

Meet at the main bath house.

5:30 PM THE LOST TRACK – Our park is tied to history through the rails! Let’s hike

the old railroad grade, and hear the stories of these old railroaders’ lives. Meet

at the Holston Bluffs Trail sign in the Moody Bluff Campground.

7:00 PM MEET THE OWL – Meet a REAL LIVE feathered hunter, and learn his

fascinating life story. Come to the Open Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting

for you. If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.

9:00 PM HUG-A-TREE AND SURVIVE – Do you know how to keep yourself and your

children safe in the woods? Enjoy this special slide program on how to keep from

getting lost, and how to keep safe if you are lost in the woods. Meet at the Open

Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

FRIDAY, JULY 4 ✰✰✰ Happy Birthday USA ✰✰✰

9:30 AM 12:00 PM 2:00 PM 5:00 PM 6:00 PM 7:00 PM GOOD MORNING USA WALK – Come wake up to a full day of Patriotic

events by taking a leisurely morning stroll on the campground’s trails. Meet at

the camp store.

FOURTH OF JULY ROCKETS – Come create your own park friendly

“firework” out of recycled materials. Meet at the main bathhouse. Bring your

creativity, and we will bring the supplies!

PATRIOTIC GAMES – Celebrate Independence Day with some fun and

friendly competition! Join us for patriotic-themed games the whole family can

enjoy! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath

house.

CREATE A CARD – Looking for a new way to celebrate the Fourth of July?

Come celebrate by making a card for those that have served our country and

helped our communities. Meet at the main bath house.

PARADE PREP – Join us at the main bathhouse to decorate your wagon, your

bicycle, your stroller or even your dog’s leash for the 7 p.m. Mini Parade.

Everyone is welcome. Children under 10 must bring a parent.

CAMPGROUND PARADE – Bring your patriotic, decorated gear and meet us

at the main bathhouse to begin our campground parade! Everyone is welcome.

9:00 AM HIKE PAW PAW CREEK – Come hike a remote wetland trail. Discover the

amazing natural diversity in these lush green woods. Meet at the Mountain Bike

Trail parking lot. Be sure to wear good hiking footwear.

ORIENTEERING – Don’t get lost! Come learn how to use one of the world’s

oldest and most useful navigating tools. Then, we’ll set out on an “expedition” of

our own! Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath

house.

WATERSCOPES – Make your own “window” into the world of water. Bring

along an old milk carton if you have one, and meet at the Open Air Chapel and

we’ll build a little tool to help us see life in the creek. If it’s raining, meet at the

main bath house.

HIKE ALONG THE LAKE – Come and enjoy a nice leisurely stroll along the

bend of the lake! This hike can take up to an hour. Meet at the Camp Store.

EARTHBALL GAMES – Let’s have a ball – a six foot tall ball!! Meet at the

Open Air Chapel for some lively, cooperative games. If it rains, we’ll have some

smaller ball games at the main bath house.

CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and

some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the

main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the main

bath house.

SUNDAY, JULY 6

9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open

Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial

Heights Baptist Church.

9:00 PM SPECIAL NOTE: Please remember that fireworks,

firecrackers, etc. are not permitted in Tennessee

State Parks. Thank you for helping to keep it a safe

July 4th celebration!
