Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park
MONDAY, JULY 7
8:00 PM BAT & MOTH – Use your ears and your “bug hunting” skills! See if you could
survive a night out in the woods and fields — if you were a flying bug! Meet at
the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
9:00 PM STATE SYMBOLS – Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on our Tennessee State
Symbols, and discover which symbols you can find here at our park! Meet at
the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
TUESDAY, JULY 8
9:00 AM FALL CREEK LOOP TRAIL -Let’s hike the park’s most scenic trail! Enjoy
beautiful vistas of the summer fields, as we search for signs of the unique
habitats in the open country. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the
start of a two hour hike.
10:00 AM ANIMAL TRACK DRAWING – Learn to “track down” local wildlife. Use your
creative skills at the same time! Your unique design is only a “footstep” away.
Meet at the main bath house.
11:00 AM MEET THE TREES – Take a closer look at our woody friends. Trees have a lot
to teach us about our land and its history. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for this
woody, leafy demonstration. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
12:30 PM BIRD CALL BINGO – Which bird song is that? Let’s “listen in” to some
common Tennessee bird calls, then test our knowledge through a classic game
of bingo. You might even get a prize! Meet at the main bathhouse.
2:00 PM LEAF ID BOOK – Leaves are shade on a hot summer day. Leaves are the
green carpet of the hills. Leaves are full of amazing stories! Let’s find out more
about the names and stories of our green neighbors. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
3:30 PM PICTURE FRAMES – Come get ready to frame your favorite natural scene!
Meet at the main bath house to make your own picture frame.
5:00 PM TREE COOKIES – Let’s read a small slice of nature! The inside of a tree holds
many clues to the outside of the land! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it is raining.
7:00 PM LANTERNS OF THE FOREST – With a few simple tools, and a bit of
imagination, we can create our own “lantern show” highlighting the SHAPES of
the woodlands. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
9:00 PM NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY – We all love taking pictures – especially on
vacation! And photographs are a perfect way to preserve memories of beautiful
outdoor places. Find out how to use even the simplest camera as a way to
conserve natural memories. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a slide-illustrated
nature photography “lesson.” In case of rain, meet at the main bath house

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9
9:00 AM NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WALK – Come practice your camera skills, or just
come to enjoy the natural beauty. Bring your camera (or smartphone camera) if
you have one, and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool to the start of our walk.
10:00 AM THE WARRIORS’ PATH – Why was our park named “Warriors’ Path?” Take a
short hike to find out more. Meet at the main bath house.
12 NOON CHEROKEE TALES – Meet at the Open Air Chapel, and enjoy the stories told
by the FIRST travelers along the Warriors’ Path. In case of rain, meet at the
main bath house.
1:30 PM BEAD CRAFT – Native peoples along the Warriors’ Path used beads,and so can
you! Find out about Cherokee beading, then make your own personalized bead
jewelry. Meet at the Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath
house.
3:00 PM TAG – You’re it! You’re the one we need to make all these great tag games work.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it is raining, meet at
the main bath house.
5:00 PM MEET THE OWL – Meet a REAL LIVE feathered hunter, and learn his
fascinating life story. Come to the Open Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting
for you. If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.
6:00 PM CORN HUSK DOLLS CIRCLE – Come listen in to a traditional Native
American tale on the origins of the corn husk doll. Then learn how to make one
for yourself! Meet at Open Air Chapel. In case of rain, meet at the main bath
house.
7:30 PM “INVADERS” AMONG US – Discover more about the dangers of invasive plant
and animal species by playing a nature game about these invaders. Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a great combination: A dark night, a bright fire, and some
traditional riddles. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the main
campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the main bath
house.
THURSDAY, JULY 10
8:00 AM BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS – Come wake up to our feathered neighbors.
Meet at the main bath house to begin a stroll through bird country! (The first 12
people to come get free doughnut & juice!)
9:30 AM HABITAT MEANS HOME – Let’s hike the Devil’s Backbone Trail, and look for
clues about who is “at home” in this rich and rugged habitat. This is a steep and
rocky trail, be sure to wear sturdy hiking footwear and bring some water. Drive
to the Camp Store, and we’ll carpool
10:30 AM BIRD’S EYE VIEW – Take a hike to the Overlook and look at our world from a
different perspective. Don’t forget your camera! Drive to the camp store, and
we’ll carpool to the start of a short, rocky hike.
11:30 AM MUD ART – Let’s have a messy, slimy good time! You’ll be amazed at how
creative you can be with nature’s own “fingerpaints”. Meet at the Boundless
Playground entrance.
1:30 PM STATE PARK “JEOPARDY” – Let’s try a natural version of the famous game
show. Test your skills and see how much you REALLY know about our State
Parks. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
THURSDAY, CONTINUED:
3:30 PM TEN ESSENTIALS – Don’t hit the trail without them! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel to find out what’s REALLY important for safe and fun nature
exploration. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
4:30 PM BACKPACKING 101 – Have you ever wanted to spend more than just a day in
the back country? Here’s your chance to gain advice on how to begin your
overnight expeditions. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.
6:00 PM NOISY TOYS – How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your
very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM NIGHT SOUNDS – Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some
seem eerie, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is
whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who
“talk” in the night! (At the main bath house if it is raining.) NOTE – there will be
a special NIGHT SOUNDS contest for children after the show.
FRIDAY, JULY 11
6:00 AM SUNRISE BIRDING – You don’t have to be an expert to appreciate birds, and
Warrior’s Path is full of them! Walk the Duck Island loop to learn some tips
about birding and identification. We will meet at the Duck Island kiosk. Bring
binoculars if you have them (we’ll have some extras).
8:00 AM TURKEY TALK – Let’s “talk turkey” about our biggest native game bird. Meet
at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.
9:00 AM HIKE THE BONEYARD – Come explore a remote corner of Warriors’ Path, full
of geologic discovery. This will be a challenging 2-3 mile hike, so be sure to wear
comfortable clothes, good hiking shoes, and bring some drinking water. Meet at
the park’s Mountain Bike parking lot, at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville
TN.
10:00 AM LAKE HOLLOW HIKE – Let’s enjoy the rich discoveries of land and water life
along the Lake Hollow trail. Meet at the main bath house.
12 NOON TWENTY QUESTIONS – Let’s play a game of twenty questions with a new
natural twist! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is
raining.
3:00 PM ANIMAL CHARADES – An old favorite with a new twist. See who can act out
the best critter! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.
6:00 PM OLD TIMEY GAMES – Enjoy some good-old fun! Try some games from the
early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if it’s raining.
7:30 PM CAPTURE THE 3 R’s FLAG – Enjoy a reduce, reuse, and recycle themed game
of capture the flag. Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
9:00 PM TENNESSEE TALES – Enjoy new insights into Tennessee Folklife as we share
some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath
house if it rains.
SATURDAY, JULY 12
9:00 AM WAKE UP WALK – Let’s wake up our senses to morning in the forest. Meet at
the main bath house for a refreshing morning walk.
10:00 AM HIKE THE “DARWIN’S REVENGE” TRAIL – It may have a very strange
name, but it is an awesome trail! Come spend a few hours in one of the most
beautiful and wildest parts of the park. Be sure to wear good walking shoes,
comfortable clothes, and bring drinking water. Meet at the park’s Mountain Bike
Trail parking lot (at the end of Freeman Road, Blountville, TN).
11:30 AM MAGNIFYING GLASS STROLL – Use your eyes and some handy little
magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath
house to begin a short discovery walk.
4:00 PM JUNIOR RANGERS: TRAIL CLEANUP – Make our park a cleaner, healthier
environment! You’ll make a big difference for our earth, and begin to earn your
Junior Ranger badge. Meet at the main bath house. Be prepared to get dirty!
7:00 PM COSMIC STROLL – What if our solar system was just 100 yards wide? With a
piece of chalk, and a bit of imagination, we’ll find our place in the universe! Meet
at the camp store
9:00 PM JOURNEY AMONGST THE STARS – There’s a universe waiting to be
discovered just above our heads. Let’s look up and wonder at the stars. Meet at
the campfire circle, east end of the main campground. In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house for some night sky legends.
SUNDAY, JULY 13
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
