Warriors Path State Park: Summer in the Park

July 28 - August 2

To keep you and your family healthy and safe, we’re limiting number of people participating
in activities. Please practice proper social distancing.
TUESDAY JULY 28
9:30 AM HIKE THE “DARWIN’S REVENGE” TRAIL – It may have a very
strange name, but it is an awesome trail! Come spend several hours in
one of the most beautiful and wildest parts of the park. Be sure to wear
good walking shoes, comfortable clothes, and bring some drinking water.
Meet at the Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. (Please preregister for
this hike.)

2:00 PM 100 INCH HIKE – One hundred inches isn’t very far, unless you are as
small as a bug! Discover life on the tiny side with some VERY SHORT
hikes. Meet at the main bath house.

5:00 PM NOISY TOYS – How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make
your very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from
nature. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In
case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

9:00 PM NIGHT SOUNDS – Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down!
Some seem eerie, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose
noise is whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the
creatures who “talk” in the night! (At the pool entrance if it is raining.)

WEDNESDAY JULY 29
9:00 AM WAKE UP WALK – Let’s wake up our senses to morning in the forest.
Meet at the main bath house for a refreshing morning walk.(Limited to
15 people, please preregister if possible).

10:30 AM MICRO-PARKS – Here’s your chance to plan and share your own nature
park. You might even get “paid” by your “customers”! Bring your best
park managing skills to the Open Air Chapel, (main bath house if rain).
1:00 PM BIKE RIDE AND STREAM STOMP – Come explore life in the muddy
places. That cool creek water sure will feel good after a warm bike ride.
Pedal on down to the camp store, and we’ll ride down to the creek. Be sure
to wear old clothes and shoes – we will get wet and muddy! Note that ALL
riders MUST wear a bicycle helmet. Children 10 or under must be
accompanied by an adult! (Please preregister for this activity).
2:00 PM LEAVE NO TRACE – We can enjoy the wilderness, and leave the land as
beautiful as it was. Find out how to camp and hike, and leave no signs of
your presence. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is
raining.

NOTE: All activities meet in and near the park’s Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.

WEDNESDAY, CONTINUED:
4:00 PM NATURE ART – You’ll be amazed at how creative you can be with nature’s own
“crayons”. Meet at the Open Air Chapel to create your own natural masterpiece.
If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.

8:30 PM MAD LIBS CAMPFIRE – Enjoy a dark night around the crackling fire, and
help us create a UNIQUE park story! Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool
entrance.
THURSDAY JULY 30
9:00 AM HOLSTON BLUFFS RAILROAD TOUR – Our park is tied to history through
the rails! Let’s hike the old railroad grade, and hear the stories of these old
railroaders’ lives. Be sure to wear good hiking footwear. Meet at the
OVERFLOW CAMPGROUND (we’re opening the gate especially for you!).
(Please preregister for this hike.)

10:30 AM BIRD’S EYE VIEW – Take a hike to the Overlook and look at our world from a
different perspective. Don’t forget your camera! Meet at the soccer fields parking
area (past the park’s marina and Boundless Playground). (Please preregister
for this walk)

1:00 PM STREAMWORKS – Let’s be “environmental detectives!” We’ll get “up close and
personal” with creek water and microplastics. Be prepared to get wet! Meet at
the Marina parking area.

3:00 PM BEAD CRAFT – Create your own beaded necklace or bracelet. We’ll bring the

beads, you supply the patient fingers! Meet at the main bath house.
5:00 PM BIRDS OF PREY – Meet a REAL LIVE feathered hunter, and learn his
fascinating life story. One of our “Wildlife Ambassadors” will be at the Open Air
Chapel so you can have a chance to meet our “feathered guest.” (In case of rain,
meet at the main bath house.)

9:00 PM TENNESSEE SEASONS – Enjoy a tour of all four seasons in the hills of

Tennessee. With words and pictures, we will experience the excitement of year-
round discovery. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or pool entrance if it is raining.

FRIDAY, JULY 31
9:00 AM SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE – Explore succession – the changing face of
nature – on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the
woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll caravan to
the start of the trail. (Please preregister for this hike).

11:00 AM 4-LEGGED FRIENDS HIKE – Let’s get some exercise for ourselves and our
dogs as we go hiking with man’s best friend! Bring along your dog or come to
share the love of other dogs. Note all dogs must be on a leash. Meet at Main
Bath House. (Please preregister for this hike.)

2:30 PM FERN “FRONDLING” – Make friends with some of the local ferns and their

relatives. Meet at the main bath house.

4:00 PM CORN HUSK DOLLS – The early settlers along the Warriors’ Path couldn’t
afford to waste anything! Even old corn husks could become a doll or toy. Meet
at the main bath house.

FRIDAY, CONTINUED:
5:30 PM SKULLS – NATURE’S TOOL BOX – Every animal carries along all the tools it
needs for survival! Come investigate some natural “tool boxes,” and find out
more about each animal’s job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.

9:00 PM CAMPFIRE – What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and
some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the
main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool
entrance.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 1
9:00 AM RIPARIAN RETREAT – Riparian means along the creek bank! Come along for
a cool hike next to the creek, for some streamside discovery. Drive to the camp
store, and we’ll caravan. (Please preregister for this hike).

10:30 AM NATURE JOURNAL – Come create your own little “nature diary.” Your home-
made book will be a perfect way to remember all your nature fun in the park!

Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.
2:00 PM MAGNIFYING GLASS WALK – Use your eyes and some handy little

magnifiers to get a close look at nature’s amazing details. Meet at the main bath
house to begin a short discovery walk.

4:00 PM TAG – You’re it! You’re the one we need to make all these great tag games work.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it is raining, meet at
the main bath house. (Yes, we can play tag and still practice social
distancing – come and see!)

7:00 PM LEAF RUBBINGS – Let’s “rub up against” some nature discoveries. Create a
lasting reminder of nature’s amazing textures. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or
pool entrance if it is raining.

9:00 PM NIGHT WOODS – It’s a whole different world out there at night! Tonight is our
chance to discover the peace and the excitement of forest life on the dark side of
the day. Bring a dim flashlight to the main bath house, to begin our night hike.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 2
9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE – Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
