Warrior’s Path: Summer in the Park

Welcome to Warrior’s Path State Park!
While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the rich natural beauty
and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable recreation here at the park.
NOTE: All activities meet in and near the parkβs Main Campground, unless otherwise specified.
TUESDAY JULY 10
11:30 AM
PICNIC HIKE
– Letβs βfeedβ our eyes and ears on park scenery, and then
feed ourselves a picnic lunch. Bring your bag lunch to the camp store, and
weβll walk to the picnic area.
1:30 PM
PARK GAMES –
Parks are perfect places to play! Have some fun
pretending to be a park animal. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main
bath house if itβs raining.
4:30 PM
PINE CONE BIRD FEEDERS
– Letβs make a snack for our feathered
friends! Meet at the main bath house, and youβll be able to bring back
home your own little bird feeder.
7:00 PM
MEET THE OWL
– Meet a real live feathered hunter. Come to the Open
Air Chapel and see βwhooo…β is waiting for you. If it is raining, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM
NIGHT HIKE TO SINKING WATERS –
It’s a whole different world out
there at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the
excitement of a night in the Sinking Waters wetland. Bring a dim
flashlight and drive to the camp store. We’ll carpool out to the park back
country.
WEDNESDAY JULY 11
9:00 AM
HIKE THE BONEYARD –
Come explore a remote corner of Warriorsβ
Path, full of geologic discovery. This will be a challenging 2-3 mile hike,
so be sure to wear comfortable clothes, good hiking shoes, and bring some
drinking water. Drive to the camp store, and weβll carpool.
11:00 AM
BOOK MARKS
– These hot summer afternoons are perfect for sitting
under a shade tree with a good book. Hold your place in your favorite
book! Meet at the main bath house, to create your own decorative
bookmark.
1:00 PM
TAG
– Youβre it! Youβre the one we need to make all these great tag
games work. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it
is raining, meet at the main bath house.
3:00 PM
JUNIOR RANGERS: TRAIL SAFETY
– Letβs keep our Junior Rangers
safe out on the trail. Learn to enjoy a great hike, and to keep yourself and
nature as safe as possible. Meet at the main bath house.
WEDNESDAY, CONTINUED
5:00 PM
EVENING STROLL
– Letβs wake up our senses to evening in the forest. Meet at
the main bath house for a short, refreshing hike.
7:00 PM
SKULLS – NATUREβS TOOL BOX
– Every animal carries along all the tools it
needs for survival! Come investigate some natural βtool boxes,β and find out
more about each animalβs job! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.

TENNESSEE WILDERNESS
– Enjoy a slide-illustrated tour of Tennesseeβs
wild, scenic places and the special values they hold. After the slide show, well
have a demonstration of how to read wildlife signs. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or pool entrance if itβs raining.
THURSDAY JULY 12
9:30 AM
DEVILβS BACKBONE HIKE
-Come hike to the high places, and get some new
views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and weβll carpool to the start of
an invigorating hike.
12 NOON
FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND
– Come walk along a little beach to read stories
in the sand. It’s a perfect place for animal tracks! Meet at the main bath house
for a short walk
2:00 PM
WEIRD SCIENCE –
Come awaken your inner scientist and observe some weird,
wacky science experiments. No lab needed! Meet at the Open Air Chapel or he
main bathhouse if itβs raining.
4:00 PM
HUMAN KNOT –
Do you know your knots? Bring friends and family to tie and
then untie a giant human knot, the more people the better! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel or at the main bath house if itβs raining.
5:00 PM
NATURAL PARALLELS –
Much of what we use in our everyday lives was first
developed by nature. Join us at the Open Air Chapel as we uncover these
natural original models. (At the main bath house if itβs raining).
7:00 PM
NOISY TOYS –
How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your
very own βmusicalβ instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to create some βbeautiful music.β In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM
NIGHT SOUNDS
– Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some
seem eerie, but thereβs no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is
whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who
βtalkβ in the night! (At the pool entrance if it is raining.)
FRIDAY JULY 13
9:30 AM
RIPARIAN RETREAT –
Riparian means along the creek bank! Come along for
a cool hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devilβs Backbone. Drive to the
camp store, and weβll carpool.
10:30 AM
RIVERBANK STROLL
-This green river valley has seen generations of
travelers. This morning, weβll travel together, and search for signs of the wildlife
and the people who came before us. Meet at the main campground bath house.
FRIDAY, CONTINUED
1:00 PM
NATURE CRAFTS
– You can make a friend! Create your own creatures using
natural materials. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is
raining.
3:00 PM
CRITTER PATHS
– Be a critter detective! Find out what’s been wandering
through the campground habitats. Meet at the camp store.
4:30 PM
CAMOUFLAGE –
How well can you βblend inβ with the natural world? Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to test your skills at finding the hidden world around you.
In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.
6:30 PM
STORY HOUR
– Evening is a perfect time to share a story! After a busy day
enjoying all the excitement of your camping trip, come hear some great
children’s stories under a big shade tree! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, (or pool
entrance if it is raining.)
8:30 PM
SUNSET HIKE
– Watch the sun go down across the green hills. Drive to the
camp store, and weβll carpool. This is a short, but rather steep hike. Bring a
flashlight for the walk back down.
SATURDAY JULY 14
9:30 AM
HIKE THE βDARWINβS REVENGEβ TRAIL –
It may have a very strange
name, but it is an awesome trail! Come spend several hours in one of the most
beautiful and wildest parts of the park. Be sure to wear good walking shoes,
comfortable clothes, and bring some drinking water. Meet at the camp store,
and weβll carpool
4:30 PM
NATURE GUESS WHO? –
Is it fuzzy? Does it fly? Does this sound like fun?
Come join us for a game of βguess who,β nature style. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.
7:00 PM
EVENING DOG WALK –
Letβs come together for a short stroll with βmanβs best
friendβ! Bring your furry friends ON A LEASH and meet at the main bathhouse
to start our walk through the campground.
9:00 PM
CHEROKEE CAMPFIRE TALES
– Meet at the campfire circle, and enjoy the
stories told by the FIRST travelers along the Warriorsβ Path. If it is raining, weβll
have an indoor βcampfireβ at the pool entrance.
SUNDAY, JULY 15

WORSHIP SERVICE
– Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open
Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial
Heights Baptist Church.
