June 13, 2017 - June 18, 2017

TUESDAY, JUNE 13
10:00 AM FRISBEE GAMES – How far, how fast or how accurately can you make
the plastic disks fly? Come have a flying good time! Meet at the Open
Air Chapel. We have plenty of extra frisbees!
12 NOON PICNIC HIKE – Let’s “feed” our eyes and ears on park scenery, feed our
minds on the Web of Life, and then feed ourselves a picnic lunch. Bring
your bag lunch and meet at the campground boat ramp.
4:00 PM ANIMAL BINGO – Test your knowledge of park wildlife with this new
twist on a good-old old game. You might even win a prize! Meet at the
Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
7:00 PM BIRDS OF PREY – Meet some real live feathered hunters. Come to the
Open Air Chapel and see “whooo…” is waiting for you. If it is raining,
meet at the main bath house.
9:00 PM LAMP-LIT NIGHT HIKE – Take a “de-light-full” hike through the
creekside forest. We’ll light up the trail with old-timey kerosene
lanterns, and discover a “new world” of life after dark. We’ll supply the
lanterns, but children should bring flashlights instead for safety. Drive
to the camp store and we’ll carpool out to the park back country.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14
8:30 AM BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS – Come wake up to our feathered
neighbors. Meet at the main bath house to begin a stroll through bird
country! (The first 12 people to come get free doughnut & juice!)
12 NOON BIKE HIKE TO DEVIL’S BACKBONE – Let’s ride our bikes and then
take an exciting hike up the ridge. Pedal on down to the camp store, and
we’ll ride to the start of our hike. Note that ALL riders MUST wear a
bicycle helmet. Children 10 or under must be accompanied by an adult!
4:00 PM SEED RACES – Wind, water, and animals carry seeds of new trees and
plants all across the land. Our “wind” can help too! Meet at the Open Air
Chapel to show off your “hot air” and plant some new life. Meet at the
main bath house if it rains.
6:00 PM RECYCLING 101 – We all know that recycling is good for the earth,
and good for us too! Come find out more about some easy ways to keep
our park, and our planet, a green healthy place. Meet at the Open Air
Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.
WEDNESDAY, CONTINUED
9:00 PM NIGHT EYES – Who are those critters whose eyes shine at night? Discover why
they shine and come walk into the night to search for them. Bring a flashlight to
the camp store.
THURSDAY, JUNE 15
10:00 AM MYSTERY BAG – Try your hand at discovering some natural textures. See if
you can guess which natural object is which. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the
main bath house if it is raining.
12 NOON DUCK ISLAND BIKE RIDE – Meet at the camp store and we’ll pedal on down
to Duck Island! See what the lake is like now, and find out about the river it
used to be. Note that ALL riders MUST wear a bicycle helmet! Children 10 or
under must be accompanied by an adult!
3:00 PM PINCHING PENNIES – Come one come all, can you beat the high-score in this
“chilling” game? Meet in front of the pool to test your strength of will.
5:00 PM RIVERBANK STROLL -This green river valley has seen generations of
travelers. This evening, we’ll travel together, and search for signs of the wildlife
and the people who came before us. Meet at the main bath house.
7:00 PM NOISY TOYS – How did the pioneer children make music or noise? Make your
very own “musical” instrument with a few simple things from nature. Meet at
the Open Air Chapel to create some “beautiful music.” In case of rain, meet at
the main bath house.
9:00 PM NIGHT SOUNDS – Nature is full of sounds when the sun goes down! Some
seem eerie, but there’s no need to be nervous. Come find out whose noise is
whose. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short slide show of the creatures who
“talk” in the night! (At the pool entrance if it is raining.)
FRIDAY, JUNE 16
9:30 AM RIPARIAN RETREAT – Riparian means along the creek bank! Come along for
a cool hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll carpool.
11:00 AM NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT – Do you have a sharp eye for nature?
Discover the natural wonders around us and see if you can find all the items on
the list! Meet at the Open Air Chapel.
1:00 PM SMOOTH, SPIKY, OR STICKY – Come get a FEEL for nature as we use our
sense of touch to explore the forest! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a hands-on
walk. Don’t forget your water and sturdy, closed-toed shoes!
3:00 PM ANIMAL MASKS – What can you be? A wolf? A bear? A kitten? Or maybe a
creature you design yourself! Bring your imagination to the main bath house.
5:00 PM WET WORLDS – For us, the lake is a place to go boating or fishing. But for the
micro-world of plankton, it’s a home. Come help us sample this incredible world
of tiny lives floating in lake water. Meet at the main bath house, and we’ll stroll
on down to the shore.

early settlement days of East Tennessee. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main

then share some good-old traditional tall tales. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or
pool entrance if it rains.

9:00 AM HIKE TO CHILDRESS TOWN – A vigorous hike over the high ridges will
bring us to the ruins of the first settlement in the park. This will be a three to
four hour hike, so wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of the trail.
11:00 AM WIERD SCIENCE – Come awaken your inner scientist and observe some weird,
wacky science experiments. No lab needed! Meet at the Open Air Chapel or he
main bathhouse if it’s raining.
2:00 PM WEB OF LIFE – Every living thing is part of the web! Help us get really “tied
up” in our work as we build our own living web. You’ll see natural places like
you’ve never seen them before! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house
if it is raining.
4:00 PM CREEK WALK – Get on your old clothes and tennis shoes. It’s time to explore
the cool, clear creek waters. We’ll discover a world of amazing life. Drive to the
camp store, and we’ll carpool. Be prepared to get wet!
6:00 PM EVENING BIKE RIDE – Meet at the camp store and we’ll pedal around the

park scenery. Note that ALL riders MUST wear a bicycle helmet. Children 10 or
under must be accompanied by an adult!
