One particular gem, US 421 nestled in the picturesque Shady Valley, beckons both vehicle enthusiasts and motorcycle riders alike with its renowned reputation for offering unforgettable scenic drives and exhilarating rides. Get ready to be swept away by the breathtaking sights with flowers in bloom and vibrant painted pastures!

The Snake

US 421, also known as “The Snake” offers 489 curves that are spread out across three mountains with plenty of spots to get out and stretch! While on The Snake, you will come across The Country Store, and it’s a must pit stop. This country store is home to The Snake with an array of refreshments and locally themed souvenirs. Be sure to sign the visitor book, and take a photo with their giant wooden chair~ you can’t miss it!

Pro-Tip:  For a longer ride, take a drive to Mountain City in Johnson County and catch spectacular fall views (the highest valley in our area).

Sunset Views

When the sun starts to set, make your way down the mountain to the South Holston Dam in Bristol for sunset. There are picnic tables to utilize and rocks to sit on as you enjoy the breathtaking views around the lake. The dam offers the best of both worlds, a lake and mountainous overlook to immerse yourself in. Once dusk has passed, enjoy the night sky undisturbed by city lights.

The Southern Dozen

Johnson City is home to the Southern Dozen! The city serves as the ultimate hub for all motorcycle enthusiasts with its strategic location, where riders can easily access twelve breathtaking routes that wind through the stunning Appalachian Mountains. From the twisty curves of the famous Snake to the mesmerizing vistas of Roan Mountain, Johnson City offers an unparalleled playground for moto-adventures.
