Julie Fowlis: Music of the Scottish Isles

October 20, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

With a careeJulie Fowlis: Music of the Scottish Islesr spanning ten years and four studio albums, Julie Fowlis and her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world. Deeply influenced by her early upbringing in the Outer Hebridean island of North Uist, she has won numerous awards and distinctions for her native Scottish Gaelic traditions. Julie was the first person to be awarded Scotland’s Gaelic Ambassador—Tosgaire na Gàidhlig—and was the perfect, authentic vocalist to feature as Princess Merida in Disney Pixar’s soundtrack to “Brave.” “There are some voices that carry much more than a melody,” says the Evening Standard of London. “They transport you to another place, give you goose flesh and make magic out of thin air. Julie Fowlis has just such a voice.” Tickets for this event are $25/20/5 and can be purchased online at www.etsu.edu/martin or by calling Kristi Smith at 423-439-8587.   Julie’s performance is followed by the annual Upper East Tennessee Celtic Festival and Games at Sycamore Shoals State Park in Sycamore Shoals Historic State Park on Oct. 21-23.
