The award winning StoryTown Radio Show will begin a new season of its one-hour live production with a special Gala performance on Monday, February 26 at 7 p.m. at the McKinney Center, located at 103 Franklin Ave.
StoryTown Radio Show is reminiscent of old-time radio shows popular in the 1930s-1950s, filled with actors performing local stories, and complete with live sound effects created on the spot. Each show also features one of the top music acts in the region.
The special opening Gala performance is titled “Love Leads the Way” and will include romantic stories about how couples met as well as stories about leadership in Jonesborough and how that leadership was on display at the Booker T. Washington School. Drawn from true stories collected throughout Jonesborough and the Tri-Cities region, the skits range from heartwarming to funny.
This month’s musical performance will feature a reunion of the cast from the play CROWNS by Regina Taylor that was performed at the McKinney Center in 2023. The reunited cast will sing gospel music accompanied by Brett McCluskey.
A gala will be held immediately following the performance, featuring various desserts and small bites from local stores and restaurants. Audience members will have an opportunity to mingle and talk with the cast, musicians, writers and directors.
Tickets for the opening performance are $10 and available online at www.Jonesborough.com/tickets
StoryTown is sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, Trivia with Budds, The Wild Women of Jonesborough and Gary and Sandee Degner, and is part of Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center.
